You can go here and plug in your ranger to find out what you need to tow it.

The last one in the list is a 2wd with standard transmission and all engines. It says to refer to the owners manual for procedures and any restrictions.

Yes, I have a 2000, V6, 5 speed, two wheel drive, supercab Ranger. Have towed it behind our motor home over 60,000 miles.

Just make sure you leave the steering unlocked and the transmission in neutral. If you forget to put the transmission in neutral it will cost you over $2000. Don't ask me how I know that.

Make sure your bumper is heavy enough and get tow brackets that are designed for and attached per the manufacturers recommendations. You should also have a brake system, lights, and make sure your tow vehicle and hitch are rated for the weight of the Ranger.

I don't really want to follow someone down the highway that's just goin' and hopin' it works...if you know what I mean... ;)

I have a blue ox tow bar that mounts on the motor home and a blue ox base plate that mounts on the Ranger.

You'll also need to have brake, tail and turn signals on the back of the Ranger. You can run wires back from your tow vehicle and use the lights on the Ranger or get magnetic tail lights like these. The magnetic ones are the easiest to use. Just plug them in and set the lights on anything metal on the back.

If you are just going to tow a couple of times, I wouldn't worry about auxiliary breaking for the Ranger. If you will be doing this a lot, then you need to get an auxiliary breaking system for the Ranger. Something simular to this but there are a lot of different brands out there.
