Hi all,
Have a Winnebago Vista 30W, 2011.  Generator has 55 hours use (oil change at 30 hours).  In checking the generator  oil level before continuing a trip I found that the oil was almost gone and the air filter was completely covered with oil with oil dripping out of the housing.  After calling Winnebago (unit 9 months old), Winnebago told me to call  ONAN (Cummins) , it was repaired. It took 3 1/2 hours to repair.  I titled this warning because it is a known recall from Cummins, but Winnebago does NOT notify Winnebago owners of the recall. You have to call cummins yourself and see if your generator Serial # was in the recall.  The recall was due to a bad "reed" and new holes had to be drilled in the engine. (Don't know what that means...but that is what ONAN told me).  Hope this post prevents someone from ruining their generator by running without oil.  Alan

Thanks for the information Alan. I presume that you have the 5500, do you know what models/years are effected or did they not share that info? thanks again for sharing with the class. ;)

Sorry, I do not know even the model of my generator.  The Winnie is parked 30 miles away (can't keep in my subdivision)...so I can't check it.  They did NOT tell me which models were recalled. It was actually the serial #, not the model that they used to track the problem.

I forgot to mention that my Winnie is a GAS not diesel...so perhaps only specific serial #gas generators are included.

Hope this helps,

Alan
