For the electrical experts...

It sounds like you are trying to say that you don't need to bury the pipe in the ground since your location is so remote. If you put in an illegal electrical installation you will have to remove it before you sell the property.

Not at all. I prefer to bury the line. Hence my orginal post. BUT...
I am realitivily remote. For example (long story short), my DW developed Acute Vertigo a few years back on a holiday weekend. We had no clue what was happening to her. 911 was called. It took the first responders and the ambulance 1 1/2 hours to find us! And I was perched at the main road, leaving my wife behind (a friend stayed with her) at the TT, waiting to bring the emergency personal in.
That being said, I don't think the local building/electrical inspector is going to be "Johnny on the Spot"! And that is based on appointments made on non-fishing days. Oh ya...he doesn't work Mondays. Get my drift?...
I want to be safe and

UPDATE:
I went to the TT yesterday to check things out. I haven't been up there for a while for various reasons (death in the family, found out my garage at the stick house has water/termite damage). Still waiting for a calm weekend to go there and enjoy.
Anyhow, checked the nomenclature on the #8 wire like I said I would. It consisted of a bit more than I thought it would. But here goes...
8 AWG MTW or THWN or THHN or GAS AND OIL RESISTANT 11 VW1 600V or AWM
What have I got?
SeilerBird:
You have got exactly the wire you need, providing it is stranded wire. THHN is probably the most common type of wire used besides romex. It will provide just the protection your wire will need in the application you wish to use it for.
Water Dog:
As Tom says, the common name is THHN. It is simply saying the wire/insulation meets the specs for each of those types.
