Have Vu qube 2000; need service
« on: June 13, 2012, 04:21:05 PM »
I want to get month-to-month direct tv for the motorhome.  We already have a vu qube 2000.  So I just need a receiver and service activation.  I have talked to folks in different campgrounds who have vu qubes and they tell me Direct TV works great for them. 8)

Went to Sam's Club yesterday.  Let's just say it wasn't a pleasant experience as the salesman, although nice, didn't know enough to help me. ::)

Can someone please tell me where to call/who to contact to get a receiver, service and activation?
I have Comcast Triple Play Bundle at home and don't want to change it.

Leaving for Maine tomorrow.  Could this be done while we are traveling?

Thanks,
Sheila

Call DirecTV, they'll set up your service and send you a receiver.  If you want the distant networks, tell them so they get you to an RV knowledgeable person to set up the account and tell you what you need to send them.

Distant Network Services (DNS) are the major networks from the east or west coast that can be received anywhere in the US, but you need to qualify as a mobile user to get them.  Otherwise, the networks are spot beamed to your home location and will not be receivable once you move out of your home area.

Another way to get ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, with DirecTV is to call their customer service number and tell them your receiver is in a motorhome and the motorhome is at zip code XXXXX, and they will flip a switch, and VOILA!

I do this every time we stop somewhere, and it works good.

Stan,

Just for clarication, is the receiver in the RV activated as an additional receiver on your home account, or does it have it's own account?

Tom,

Its the only receiver I have. I don't have DirecTV at home, I have Comcast Cable.

Thanks Stan. Do you mind me asking you pay for service?

The reason I ask is that some/many of us use a receiver that is activated as an additional receiver on our DTV home account (just $5/month), but that would probably not receive the same reception accommodation (from DTV) you receive for your one receiver. DTV's rules and reception to this situation changes over time; At one point, they insisted that an additional receiver used like this in an RV or boat required it's own account.

Tom,

I'm still under an "introductory" plan for 2 yrs at $34.99 per month. During the time the coach is in storage, I shut off the service, which doesn't count towards the 2 years. My time will be up in October, just about the time that I would usually go in to storage, but I'm retiring in November and plan to travel quite a bit this winter. Here is my plan. I will cancel the service that I have on the motor home, and cancel my Comcast Cable at home. Then I will order a new residential plan and be eligible for another 2 years of "introductory pricing" because I will be a new "residential" customer. I will then get a 2nd receiver that I can put in the motor home.

Tom,

I have Dish (paying $5 for the MH receiver), but I've found that I can call and get the zip code updated each time we stop. That means the home receiver won't work for locals, but I'm not home anyway. I'd expect that Direct will do the same thing.
