KRESSIES FIVE AND DIME ... remember when......
Rancher Will:
Similar situtation with the Montgomery Wards Stores. It was after WWII that Wards never kept up with economic conditions and finally closed shop. I believe that Sears barely survived and I am not sure that even Sears can continue much long, based on the way Sears operates in our town where we shop.
I have always heard that Sam Walton copied and adapted the then Sears and Pennys marketing policies when he started.
I years ago I had an oportunity to briefly visit with Ole Albertson in Boise after he started Albertsons Super Markets. I still remember that he told me that the Super Market concept, that he started, would be the end of then, common, Mom and Pop Grocery Stores on Main Street.

Fairbury was the home office for Hesteds that later sold out to Kresges. I loved Hesteds, they had everything.

Hey Lou, actually there were both stores....Kress and Kresge

I remember Kress when I was growing up in Pennsy.

Never too old to learn. Although I've been in NC for 42 years, I'm not a native. We didn't have Kress in my home area, but I understand they did in the east and south (and other places).
