1995 32footer 454 tbi high idle and real rich...
jake240z:
Hello my fellow travelers of the open road!!! My first RV and Ive got a little problem the idle is high and the engine runs very rich especially after warm up, I have replaced the tps and the sensor with the plunger on it, did the plugs too, so before I go off half cocked (too late) and changing any more parts, Ive decided to consult you guys ( which i shoulda done first...) thanks in advance, Jake
wow:
Some '95 models had OBD2 diagnostic ports. Does yours? If so, a diagnosis using an OBD2 scanner would help you find the problem. If it does not, and you have changed the TPS sensor, you should check the throttle linkage and see if there is an obstruction. The housing through which the throttle cable runs can wear at the end from the cable rubbing it and keep it from retracting all the way. After that is checked, I would remove the oxygen sensors, clean them with carb. cleaner and re-install them. If it straightens out, replace the oxygen sensors soon.

To run that rich, I would suspect a temp sensor. You do have OBD so you should be able to get a reading. I believe you have OBD I.
meternerd:
Have you checked for any ECM codes? Might be a sensor. Temp sensor is most likely. OBD1 is probably what you have. Many sites where you can get information. I have the same setup on my 95 C class. 454, AT, Chevy G30 chassis. I had to replace my ECM (knock sensor code). Bought on on E-bay for $37 and used my old prom. Works great now.

Clean the air flow sensor, they have a special cleaner at the parts houses, like carb spray. Do you have a check engine light on? For a 1995 model you more than likely have OBD I. Here is a way to jump the computer and give you any hard codes.

Good Luck and let us know how it goes.
