Dash air blowing not so cold
phantomcarp:
Any ideas on what I could do to diagnose not having cold air in the front dash. The blowers work great just not very cold.
ChiefM:
With an 8 year old coach it probably needs some Freon. You can get a recharge kit from any auto-parts store, get one with a gauge.
SargeW:
Or possibly the flap in the system that directs air from the floor ducts to the dash vents is not opening or closing all the way. Many times they are vacuum operated, and a fitting or line gets a small air leak and the doors do not operate properly.
Wizard46:
Is it an Evans or a SCS/Frigette. You can go to both websites for some troubleshooting guides.
Mine goes in the shop Monday. Compressor won't pull in and condenser fans not running. Jumper pressure switch per instructions and a 25 amp fuse popped that caused the dash blower to stop. I'm suspecting a bad compressor clutch.
Gary RV Roamer:
It's no different than the a/c system in a car and the same diagnostic techniques and repairs apply. If it needs refrigerant, it can be added but it's pointless unless the leak that let it escape is repaired first.
A common failure in the Evans a/c system is a stuck open mixing valve. This valve allows the dash system to heat as well as cool. The valve sticks open, so heat is being mixed with the chilled air, warming it back up. In effect, the system first chills the air, then re-heats it!
