Dash air blowing not so cold

<< < (2/3) > >>

catblaster:
First problem I encountered with mine was the "O" rings and compressor nuts. They had loosened up, factory had used the proper O rings at the time (black) but have since learned that the green ones are more suitable for 134A.  Constantly having problems with vacuum valves and dampers due to the way winnebago ran the lines in the dash. One of the redo's will be to replace and reroute all the lines properly.

My dash AC is not working now but I suspect it is due to the compressor nuts again. Seems like things just break sitting in the yard...not moving may be harder on equipment than traveling.

phantomcarp:
Appreciate all the input.   I'm thinking I will get a recharge kit from a auto sure and give it a try. When I adjust the dial from hot to cold it changes dramatically from very hot to not so hot. Cool even so I;m thinking it works.

Gary RV Roamer:
The fact that it cools somewhat is what makes me suspect it is the temperature mixing valve rather than the compressor system.  I don't know if Monaco used the Evans system or not, but as I said earlier, that is a very common type of failure.

carson:
One way to double check the valve is as follows.

With a totally cold engine set the A/C lever to cold. Then start the engine  and engage the A/C function.

If the air is ice cold when engine is cold, the valve will not interfere with the air temp.

As the engine warms up, the coolant getting hot, and the airflow starts to warm up, then the valve will be suspect.

Another thing to remember is that if the RV is stationary with a very hot engine department, the A/C system will lose efficiency after a little while and the cold temp will warm slowly.

The condenser needs airflow (driving) to ensure efficiency. (from personal experience)

Wizard46:
If you buy the freon, get the one with an inline gauge. You can check the freon level with the gauge and add only what's needed. Overfilling can be very bad also and destroy a compressor.

Not the best tester but better than nothing. I've seen too many people add freon thinking that its a cure all. Also refrigeration systems do not use up freon, if it's low then it's leaking, period.
