I would definitely say I am a better voter than those 60% of a particular political party who believe that the 2020 election was stolen.
They can say or think anything they want and so can you, but at the end of the day it's simple zero sum. Their vote, for better or worse, counts the same as yours or anyone else's. I got a laugh out of one pro choice young woman who was being interviewed just after the reversal of Roe. She said "I just got an urgent email from Nancy Pelosi saying, Please rush us $25.00 to fight for a woman's right to choose, *#@$ you, you had both houses of Congress and the WhiteHouse and you didn't do $#@&!". It's Kabuki Theater!

I'm an IT Professional nearing retirement. My company is already using it to write code .. I'll let you know how effective it is.

That was before Roe v Wade was overturned, and after several nominees to the Supreme Court said that "Roe was settled law."

Yes, people can believe whatever they want, however, all beliefs are not equal. Just because you believe something to be true doesn't mean it is true! I believe those beliefs are called "alternate facts."

Since the advent of social media coupled with the internet , I firmly believe that this has created a decline in peoples overall intelligence. Since when did the world firmly believe without question some machine that you talk to and it talked back. No ones brains are being manipulated into a long term thought process that they may need for simple survival. I know in the days that people had to figure out how to fix stuff, folks were in their own right pretty darn smart.

And I am of the belief that ANYONE that thumps their chest and claim to be smarter than anyone else has already lacked the ability and decorum to discuss intelligence levels. I call that arrogance and rates at the 50 I.Q. in my book. There are versions of just about every fact or topic. Or as they say, science is not settled, as a good example. If it was so, there would not be continued research that sometimes disproves what folks may have previously believed. A person or generation relying on the new AI will become a useless human being.

Has anyone really figured out the JFK asassination yet? How many books have been written on that one over how many years. Maybe ask AI about that one. hehe

There will be pros and cons. Certainly the elderly and frail will benefit as 24/7 robot health care will help people manage to stay on their homes longer or till they pass on.

Even those who have or will lose their license to drive will benefit from systems like Tesla and it’s competitors full self drive systems. I think level 4 and level 5 autonomous full self drive systems are still 5 to 10 years away yet but there is definitely progress being made.

Presently teslas FSD is still a level 2 system and must be supervised, but it is getting quite effective at driving us to our destination. We use FSD for probably 98 percent of our driving so are use to its idiosyncrasies, failures and successes. We have seen a significant change in the last year and many drives now are completely without intervention. But it still occasionally makes dumb mistakes, wrong lane selection, signalling for no reason, dumb routing and non human ways of dealing with traffic circles etc (although that is now much better). But it excels beyond human level at people or bikes at cross walks or just stepping off a curb into traffic or some moron opening there door without checking etc.

Anyway. I think the next decade is going to be super interesting.

Jmho.

I think you're off by most of 100 years...maybe more. Until you can put a motorhome in self-drive mode, go in the back and make lunch, then take a nap and have the system wake you up 300 miles down the road there will be no such thing as an "autonomous self-drive system".

Heh heh. Maybe. But I’ll stick with 5 to 10 years. I kinda see the progress every day so I’m probably a little more optimistic.

There are two big milestones which need to be achieved for level 4 and or 5.

1. Reliability. We did an FSD drive of about 35 kilometres the other day including countless stop lights, traffic circles, highway merges and very busy sections, City and rural sections etc etc. A normal drive. On the way there it did the whole drive without a single intervention. On the way back I had to intervene twice, once at a traffic circle and once because it couldn’t decide which lane to get in because of crappy lane markings etc. It was confusing other drivers so I took over. But a level 3, 4 or 5 system won’t allow for that.

2. The last 1/4 mile, eg the parking lot. Right now if you tell it to take you to home depot it will…but once it’s turned into the parking lot it doesn’t know what to do. In other words it doesn’t know where to park. It can park automatically once you tell it where to park but it doesn’t know where to park or the process involved in that.

It all takes time. I suspect things will have changed a lot even in the next year. There is a new update coming down next week. Should be fun.

I believe a large number of people are artificially intelligent -educated beyond their ability to understand the basic concepts of living in a society.
Most of the people I've known, including my father, who say that or similar don't have any higher education and it makes them feel less inferior by putting down others who are more educated.

I think in the near term the greatest threat from AI is the hype about it that is currently being pushed by the media complex.
Kinda the same as the UFO push or the pedophile push, it's all conditioning so you will react or perceive in a certain way.
Example a few days ago when they moved the markets with the fake pentagon disaster story. Enough people believed for a short period of time that the perpetrators could day trade on it.
A few more events like that and folks will be conditioned not to believe any new story, which could be very useful if you have skeletons coming out of your closet into the daylight.
"Those aren't my skeletons, it's AI generated fakery!"

why are people suddenly freaking out about AI? It has been used for years.

  • Maps and Navigation. AI has drastically improved traveling. ...
  • Facial Detection and Recognition. ...
  • Text Editors or Autocorrect. ...
  • Search and Recommendation Algorithms. ...
  • Chatbots. ...
  • Digital Assistants. ...
  • Social Media. ...
  • E-Payments.
