If you're like me, you're always looking for a "deal" on your camping fees. Sometimes it's pay for 5 and get 7 nights or a 10% discount for belonging to a certain group. Are you a senior, a veteran, disabled? Many campgrounds offer discounts for those folks. Whoever you are, there are discounts out there. Here's what I've found in my searching for the best deal. Arizona State Parks will issue a Disabled Veterans Annual Pass to a disabled veteran who has a service connected disability rated as 100% disabling, who is receiving compensation, and is a current Arizona resident and has been an Arizona resident for one or more years. Arkansas

Arkansas citizens 62 and over will be admitted to campgrounds at one-half the regular campsite fee Sunday through Thursday nights and at a 25% discount weekends and holidays.

Out-of-state citizens 62 and over will receive a 25% discount Sunday through Thursday nights and no discount on weekends or holidays.

U.S. citizens with 100% total and permanent disability will be admitted to campgrounds at one-half the regular campsite fee year round.

The discount to senior citizens and disabled citizens does not apply to winter rates.

Driver's license can be used as proof of age. Current written proof of 100% total and permanent disability is required. Golden Access and Golden Age are NOT acceptable proofs of age and/or disability.

California

DISABLED DISCOUNT PASS
For permanently disabled persons a discount card may be purchased for $3.50 from the Department. The pass provides year-round 50% discount for use of all basic facilities (including parking and camping) in State-operated parks except Hearst San Simeon SHM. The discount does not apply to fees under $2.00 or supplementary fees, and cannot be used with any other discount/pass program.

DISABLED WAR VETERAN/PRISONER OF WAR PASS
For honorably discharged war veterans who are residents of California with a 50% or more service-connected disability, or were held as prisoners of war by forces hostile to the United States. Entitles the holder to the use of all basic State Park System operated facilities, including camping and day use, at no further charge. The pass is not valid at units operated by local government, private agencies or concessionaires. It is not valid for group campsites, commercial use, or for supplemental fees and cannot be used in conjunction with any other pass and/or discount.

GOLDEN BEAR PASS
For persons 62 years of age or older with income limitations specified on the application form; or receiving aid to the aged, blind, or disabled; or any person receiving Aid to Families with Dependant Children. Entitles the bearer and spouse to use of all parking facilities in state-operated parks.

Colorado

Aspen Leaf Pass - $27 per vehicle - Aspen Leaf Passes are available to all Colorado residents 64 or older and allows unlimited access to all Colorado State Parks for 2007. This pass has the added bonus of 50% off camping, Sunday through Thursday, excluding holidays!

To purchase an Aspen Leaf Pass, provide proof of age and a current vehicle registration. The Aspen Leaf pass may be purchased only at a State Park or State park office (sorry, not available online).

Colorado residents with current Disabled Veterans license plates may access Colorado State Parks free without a pass on the windshield. [50%+ rating]

Columbine Pass - The Columbine Pass offers a discounted pass for disabled Colorado residents that is transferable between vehicles. The Columbine pass is available by application only with proof of eligibility. The Columbine Pass will allow permanently and totally disabled individuals to purchase an entrance pass for $12.50 annually instead of the regular vehicle cost of $55.

Delaware residents who hold a Golden Access Passport will be exempted from seasonal or daily entrance fees to Delaware State Parks. Delaware Residents with a Golden Access Passport will receive a 20% discount from normal camping rates. Passport holders who are not Delaware residents will receive a 10% discount.

Seniors (65+) and 100% Disabled Florida Residents (max 4 people per site) receive ½ off the base fee for camping. Will accept Golden Access, Medicare card, DAV ID card, physician letter, etc. as proof of disability. Florida DL or birth certificate as proof of age.

Weekly Rate Discounts are available at selected parks offering 10% off the base fee for camping.

Monthly Rate Discounts are available at selected parks offering 30% off the base fee for camping.

Florida residents on food stamps get ½-off entrance fees.

Seniors 62 and Older
Annual ParkPass discounts of 50% are available for senior citizens who present a copy of their drivers license. Senior disabled veterans enjoy an even larger discount. Seniors also receive a 20% off individual or family membership in Friends of Georgia State Parks & Historic Sites, plus 20% off:

  • Cottage rates (Sunday - Thursday, December 1 - March 31). Not valid with any other promotions or discounts. Limited to one cottage per stay.
  • Campsite rates (year-round). Not valid for group camping. Discount applies only when vehicle is registered to a senior. Limited to one campsite per senior.
  • Individual lodge room rates (year-round). Limited to one room per stay.
  • Golf green fees.

 

Disabled Veterans
Disabled veterans who are Georgia residents and present a Certificate of Eligibility from their Veterans Benefits Coordinator are entitled to a 25% discount on Annual ParkPasses, Individual or Family Friends Memberships, lodge rooms, campsites, cottages, mini-golf, golf fees, swimming pools and historic site admission.

Idaho

Veteran's Pass waives all camping fees for Idaho residents with 100% service-related disability

Seniors: Those 62 or older will receive 50% off camping fees within select Idaho State Parks. The discount is valid mid-week on stays Monday-Thursday (excluding holidays) at any of these participating state parks: Dworshak, Heyburn, Winchester, Lake Cascade, Three Island Crossing, Bruneau Dunes, Bear Lake, Lake Walcott, Massacre Rocks. The discount applies to campsites only

Limited Income: Idaho residents showing proof of limited income (Medicaid card) or who sign a limited income form, will receive a discount of $4 on camping.

Illinois

The State of Illinois and the Department of Natural Resources grant special camping discounts to the following Illinois residents:

  • Senior Citizens - 62 years and older pay ½ price plus $5 for utilities Monday-Thursday
  • Disabled Individuals - with Class 2 or 2A (as defined in the Illinois Identification Card Act) - free camping but pay $5 for hookups
  • Disabled Veterans - as defined in the Dept. of Veterans Affairs Act - free camping but pay $5 for hookups
  • Former Prisoners of War - free camping but pay $5 for hookups

Seniors/Disabled Discount: Kansas resident seniors (65 and older) and disabled individuals can purchase motor vehicle permits at one-half of the regular price in effect at the time of purchase as long as the vehicle is registered in their name. Seniors receive reduced daily use fees.

Louisiana

Provides overnight visitors a complimentary pass that allows them to visit historic sites for free, for 30 days following their stay at a state park.

Day Use - Free for Seniors (62 and older) and children age 3 and under. Free admission to all sites is provided for Disabled Veterans with State Park Permit (obtain from LA Department of Veterans Affairs).

Camping - Visitors who hold an America the Beautiful Senior and Access Pass (Golden Age/Golden Access) are entitled to a 50% reduction on camping fees at Louisiana State Parks. (Passport holders are allowed one site per passport).

Golden Age Pass -- Entitles adults, ages 62 and older, free entry cardholders only) to all State Parks that charge service fees. The pass is also valid for half price camping Sunday through Thursday.

Massachusetts

The Massachusetts Senior Pass is a benefit offered to state residents who are 62 years of age or older. The pass allows free parking for the vehicle occupied by the pass holder, whether they are driving or a passenger. Passes are available at all parks that charge a parking fee. A Senior Pass is not valid at campgrounds and is subject to available parking.

Parking fees are waived for vehicles bearing an HP plate, placard or disabled veterans' license plate. This waiver does not apply to camping fees and is subject to available parking.

Discount for day use permit with Minnesota disabled plates or certificate, $12 instead of $25. For all visitors, the semi-modern campsite rate is reduced to a rustic rate during the off season when showers and flush toilet facilities are not available. Half-priced camping is available Sunday-Thursday for Minnesota residents with disabilities. This reduced rate applies to standard and rustic campsites only.

Senior: Permit is issued to a senior citizen who is 65 years of age or older and has continuously resided in Nevada for the 5 years immediately preceding the date on which the resident submits the application. The permit provides the holder unlimited entrance to all parks and use of camping and boat launch facilities in the parks for 12 months after the date the permit for senior citizens is issued. An annual administrative fee of $15.00 is charged. The permit does not authorize the use of hook-ups without payment of the fee set forth in this section.

Disabled: The Division will reduce by $1 any entrance fee established pursuant to this chapter charged to a person who holds a disability placard and presents it upon entrance to a park.

Day use free NH residents 65 and over. Campgrounds offer a $2 per night discount Sunday through Thursday to persons 65 or older.

Free park pass for New Jersey residents age 62 or over and residents who are totally disabled provides free admission and free parking and a $2 per night reduction in campsite rates.

12-month camping permit $225 non-resident, $180 NM resident, $100 senior (62+) NM resident, $100 disabled NM resident - gets you free camping, add $4 daily for electric (camp fee without permit $10)

All New Mexico veterans with a 50% or higher disability are eligible to receive free year-round access to state parks, museums and historic monuments.

New York

If you are a New York State resident 62 or older, on any weekday (except holidays), you can obtain fee vehicle access to state parks and arboretums, fee reduction to state historic sites, and fee reduction for state-operated swimming, golf, tennis and boat rental simply by presenting your current valid New York State Driver's License or New York State Non-Driver's Identification Card.

Disabled veterans can obtain free access passes from the New York State Department of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation. An access pass for disabled citizens is also available.

All other North Dakota veterans with service related disabilities are eligible to receive an annual permit for $20. This program is available to North Dakota residents only, with VA proof of disability or status, or a North Dakota DAV/POW license plate.

Ohio

Some parks honor Passport America Sunday-Wednesday

Honorably discharged Ohio resident veterans with a disability that has been determined by the Department of Veterans Affairs to be permanently and totally disabling and who receive a VA pension or compensation are entitled to camp free of charge in Ohio's state parks. Ohio residents who are former prisoners-of-war are also exempt from camping fees. Proof of eligibility must be presented when registering to obtain discounts. Qualifying Ohio resident veterans may request a letter confirming their eligibility for free camping in Ohio State Parks by calling Veterans Affairs at 1-800-827-1000.

The Golden Buckeye card is issued by the Ohio Department of Aging to Ohioans 60 years of age or older or to Ohioans 18 years or older who are totally and permanently disabled. The Golden Buckeye card must be presented when registering to obtain the discount. Golden Buckeye cardholders are given discounts as follows:

  • 50% discount on camping fees on Sunday through Thursday nights
  • 10% discount on camping fees on Friday and Saturday nights;
  • 10% discount on the total rate for Rent-A-Camp, Rent-A-RV, Rent-A-Tepee, Rent-A-Yurt, Camper Cabins, and cedar cabins
  • 10% discount on all cottage and lodge reservations.

 

Card may be used for only ONE camp site, getaway rental unit, cottage, or lodge room per visit, and must belong to the person using the facility, id may be required. Card must be presented and valid at the time of arrival or check-in to receive discount.

No Discounts on the Utility Fee

Senior Citizens Discount Program: Oklahoma State Parks offers a $2.00 off per night discount to anyone over age 62. All you have to provide is an ID verifying that you are over 62. Golden Age not accepted.

Totally Disabled Persons Program: The base rate on campsites is discounted 50% for all campers who are 100% disabled, and their immediate family members (living in household). Acceptable bona fide documentation noting 100% permanent disability includes:

  • Medicare card
  • Veteran's hunting/fishing license
  • Award letter of disability from a retirement insurance board, commission or administrator
  • Letter from physician verifying disability.

Rhode Island

No fee shall be charged to any person with a disability regardless of age, or to automobiles transporting a non-driver with a disability at any recreational facility owned by the state, provided, however, proper identification is presented as prescribed by the Department of Environmental Management. For the purpose of this section "person with a disability shall mean an individual who has a physical or mental impairment and is receiving: [A] Social Security disability (SSDI), [B]Supplemental Security Income benefits (SSI), or Veterans benefits and who shall be determined under applicable federal law by the Federal Department of Veteran's Affairs to be 100% disabled through a service connected injury.

For this section "fees" shall include all fees for parking, admittance, or other user-fees for playing golf. The term "fees" shall not include licensing fees; camping fees, picnic table fees or specialized facility use fees, including, but not limited to fees for the use of equestrian areas, performing art centers, game fields and mule shed. You must obtain the disability pass to get the discount. Seniors 65 and over - ½ established entrance fee and half-off golf fees, no day use fee

Annual Parks Pass $50 for unlimited free entry to parks.

South Carolina residents who are at least 65 years of age, legally blind or disabled, qualify for certain rate reductions. Proof of age or disability is required. Qualifying residents receive 35% off admission fees, camping, picnic shelters, golf greens fees, and fishing pier admission. Also these qualifying residents may purchase a Palmetto Passport for $25.00 (50% off) for admission to all state parks for the period of one year.

The same rate reductions as listed above are extended to out-of-state U.S. residents only at the following parks: Baker Creek, Calhoun Falls, Hamilton Branch, Hickory Knob, Lake Hartwell, and Sadlers Creek.

Tennessee Seniors (62+) get approximately 25% off on all standard camping fees and approximately 10% off self-registration fees on a year round basis. Out-of-state Seniors will receive a discount in accordance with the published rate schedule. Their discounts range from 9 to 11 percent. Disabled visitors, residents and non-residents of Tennessee, who are disabled may obtain an approximate 50% discount on camping fees charged at all parks upon showing satisfactory proof of such disability.

Texas Parklands Passport (apply at any Texas park)

Persons 65 years of age and over and Texas residents are entitled to 50% reduced entry rounded to the next whole dollar. (Residents and nonresidents turning 65 years of age before September 1, 1995 are entitled to waived entry fees at state parks where entrance fees are collected.)

Veterans of the US Armed Services holding a 60% or more service connected disability (as determined by the US Veterans Administration) will receive waived entry fees to state parks where entrance fees are collected.

 

Individuals who have been medically determined to be permanently disabled as a result of a mental or physical impairment (including blindness) for purposes of receiving benefits under the Social Security Act and who are currently receiving those benefits will be entitled to 50% reduced entry rounded to the next whole dollar.

Off-Season Senior Citizen Pass - $50.00
Free nightly camping or moorage from Oct. 1 to March 31, and Sunday through Thursday in April. There is a $6 per-night fee for utility sites. Passes are available for $50. Offered to Washington state residents 62 years and older. Washington State. Resident is defined as: resident of Washington state for at least the past 12 consecutive months. Dual-state residency will not be considered.

Senior Citizen Limited Income Pass - No Charge
Good for 50 percent discount on nightly camping/moorage. Free watercraft launching and trailer dump. Valid year-round. Offered to Washington state residents 62 years and older with an annual household income of $35,000 or less.

Disability Pass - No Charge
Good for 50 percent discount on nightly camping/moorage. Free watercraft launching and trailer dump. Valid all year round. Available for one-year (short-term disability) or five-year (permanent disability) periods. Offered to Washington state residents who are legally blind, profoundly deaf, developmentally disabled or who meet the disability definition used by the U.S. Social Security Administration.

Note: A Permanent Disability Parking Permit, issued by the Washington State Department of Licensing, also entitles you to the 50 percent disability discount. Simply show your placard or license plate directly to the park ranger.

<>Disabled Veteran Lifetime Pass - No Charge
Free camping/moorage, campsite reservations through State Parks central reservations system, watercraft launching, trailer dump. Valid year-round. Offered to Washington state residents with a documented service-connected disability of at least 30 percent.

Disabled Person Camping Discount
WV residents who are totally and permanently disabled can receive a discount of 50% off on campground fees for each campsite to be used exclusively by the eligible camper. They must download an application and have it signed by a WV phsician.
