Taking factory delivery

by Tom Jones

Folks have asked about the pros and cons of taking factory delivery of their new RV.

What does factory delivery mean?

Factory delivery means just that - you opt to take delivery of your RV at the factory or, in some cases, at a factory service center close to the factory.

Why take factory delivery?

A manufacturer will assign one or more techs to you for several days. They will ensure that you are familiar with all the systems, will check everything out, and will correct any problems before you drive away. You'll live in your RV during the delivery process, so you'll get a chance to check things out for yourself. Forum members report that this is a much more efficient and pleasant experience than trying to have a dealer fix problems.

Will I save any money?

No. Even though you may take factory delivery, you still purchase from and negotiate with the dealer of your choice.

What does factory delivery cost?

Manufacturers charge a fixed amount (approximately $750-$1,500 depending on manufacturer), essentially covering the cost of the techs they assign to you.
