Leaking toilet seal

by Tom Jones

Does the residual water in your toilet all drain out? Or maybe you have an odor coming from the toilet. Before rushing out to buy a new seal or visiting the nearest RV repair shop, try the following.

Occasionally, a small piece of toilet paper will become lodged in the seal, preventing the toilet valve from fully closing and sealing. Open the valve and carefully clean around the seal. A small tool made from a bent coat hanger works for some folks, but be careful to avoid any sharp edges that might damage the seal. A plastic tool is available for the job. When nothing else is available, I've used a finger, but remember to thoroughly wash your hands when you're done.
