    6V71 Detroit engine pulse rate

The speedometer and tach were installed as a matching set by the previous owner. I have wiring/installation manuals, and while not specific to these exact models, seem to be appropriate. According to the manuals, both instruments are driven by the generator sender. There IS  a generator sender...

    6V71 Detroit engine pulse rate

Lou Schneider The speedometer is less of an issue as I could ask my brother to go with me and use the mile-markers. The tach is a little more involved and I don't want to spend money on tools if I can help it. A signal is coming from the impulse sending unit. and hopefully it will work when I...

    6V71 Detroit engine pulse rate

Does anyone happen to know what the pulse rate is? I need to calibrate my speedometer and tach (after-market) and entering the pulse rate is one way. I can set the speedometer by start/stop from one mile-marker to the next, but that's a fidgety thing to do by myself.

    Lost interior 12 volt power

I don't remember what brand your trailer is, or if you'd found the AC/DC panels. A Jayco 5th wheel I had recently had both panels mounted under the sleeper-couch, behind the kick panel. You should have 110 breakers and 12-volt fuses there. A direct wire from the battery should be there too and...

    allison transmission shifting issue?

I recently had what I thought was a problem with the 3-speed Allison in my bus RV. Seemed not to shift at all or not into 3rd gear. Folks on here clued me that it wasn't a transmission problem, but was the engine not developing enough RPMs for the transmission to shift. They told me to check my...

My Class A won't crank!! Help needed please!!

You said the starter relay clicks, but you need to check the solenoid. Guess it's mounted on the starter (not remote like Fords). Turn the ignition on and check for + voltage on the positive terminal. If no + voltage, the problem is between the ignition switch (assuming you have voltage to the...

HELP! New owner of older RV - on long trip & engine surging!

My old 1976 Flxible bus with 6V71 Detroit Diesel runs up and down when it first starts cold. This CAN be a governor problem on engines that have them. As others have said, knowing what engine you have would be helpful/necessary.

    Allison transmission shifting problem

Thanks to all for your suggestions, and it did indeed turn out to be the fuel filters. I just got insurance and tags yesterday, put the tags on and took off (installed the new filters a few days ago), and it ran and shifted fine. Cheap fix, this time. :) Thank you all again. Now I'm going to...

    Allison transmission shifting problem

Thanks Gary and boatbuilder. I'll check the fuel filters and open up the air filter to make sure it's clean. I know the transmission depends on engine RPMs, and at first thought the tach had something to do with it. But besides the bus maybe never having a tach, there isn't a feed from the...

    Allison transmission shifting problem

I just bought a 1976 Flxible Bus/RV conversion a week ago near Nashville. Everything seemed fine, brother said I was doing 70 on I-24 (speedometer seriously off). 10 or so miles north of Nashville on I-65 I noticed that it had probably down-shifted on a grade, but never shifted back up to 3rd...

    Introduction.

Taking the suggestion to introduce myself. I'm 67 years old, just bought my first motorhome a week ago. I had taken a 5week road-trip on my Harley in 2012, had a wonderful time but decided to try for a little more comfort, and maybe stay on the road for long periods.
