In our area ticks are rampant so Lyme vaccination is yearly. Had one attach for 1 week to our whippet before we found it last summer. I've not seen any side effects and the large vet hospital we go to recommends it to everyone.

I had a similar leak and caulking under the outside rubber gasket along the top of the windshield solved the problem for me.
