    Black Tank Bugs

If you try that drowning trick, add a small amount of dish detergent to the water. The suds clog the insect's breathing pores and does a better job of killing them.

Big Horn or Big Country Fifthwheels

Kathy and Warren, Things have changed since that last post. The bad news is that I had to cancel my plans for the rally, and the trip to Alabama and Louisiana for some good weekends of Cajun and Zydeco dancing before that. The good news is I'm going to Hawaii instead. I'll be over there for...

    truck advice please

I'm towing my 33' 5er with a 2006 Duramax/Allison. My first diesel vehicle. After my first REAL trip, 7000 miles through the western US and Canada, I am forevermore a diesel driver. I will never own another gasser. That goes for if I lose my mind and buy another car. (Not likely in this...

Should I pump out the water tank when I travel?

The subject has been beat to death, with almost as many opinions as replies. I used to always travel dry but I learned on a couple longer trips that my trailer balances better and rides with my fresh water tank about 1/3 full. I put about that much in for one longer trip towards West Texas where...

How HOT is it where you are?

Hit 100 for the first time here in Austin yesterday. Very cool summer so far. Lots of rain helped there.

    A Sad Story

I was just on a trip out west through Texas and there is an 80mph speed limit posted on I-10 somewhere way out west. I was pulling my 5er at my normal 60 - 62mph and stayed at that speed in spite of the posted limit. When I've got my house along with me I have no reason to be in a hurry...

My quest for power and gas mileage... a running log for those with older rigs..

Back in my aircraft mechanic days we used iodine on rusty nuts/bolts. Apply liberally, let soak for a couple hours, apply again if necessary. The iodine eats rust. WD-40 might work just as well. It just wasn't invented yet when I was in that lifetime so I can't comment on it's efficacy in those...

    Nashville to Colorado.....cool route

I know some would argue with me, but anything over 100 degrees is HOT, I don't care what the humidity is. I agree with that northern Michigan route. A long way around, but if you're not on a particular schedule, well worth the time and mileage. I'm headed for Redmond next week. Looking...

    Portable Air Compressors

I have that 12V compressor and it works pretty well. I haven't had to pump up a tire much, only top them off occasionally. My tires call for 90psi, and I can top them off from say about 83 or so in about one to three minutes per tire. It pumps up my air hitch really fast.

    driving

US 19 down through Florida can be a real nightmare. Unless I had unlimited time and the patience of Job I would take any route but 19.

Big Horn or Big Country Fifthwheels

Hi there, I'm the dad mentioned above. I am happy with my Big Horn. I have the 3055RL model, currently living in it full time. I'm single, so it works for me. If I had a mate I'd opt for a bigger model. As Mike Goad said, the water connection was not too well thought out, but I solved it with...

    New to rv-ing

Just make sure you have a weight distributing hitch, (WDH), and a good brake controller. Remember to slow down a little. You have your motel room with you now so you don't have to be time and distance oriented. Enjoy!

    Redmond Convention (FMCA) 2007

Can't see how to delete. I was looking at the wrong Redmond rally. I won't be there after all.

    Silly Microwave oven question

To get back to the microwave empty or not, it consumes the same power either way. However, without something to absorb the microwaves they can reek havoc with the magnatron. It's always best to have something in the cavity, even a cup of water will do. In another lifetime I worked at Sears in...

Where to put pictures in our camper.... Post-it picture paper

Something that I'm considering is one of those electronic picture frames. (Considering, 'cause I have blown the budget for this year). They're a bit pricey, but you only need one and it will show all your pictures like a slide show. The disadvantage I guess would be if you wanted a specific...
