    1984 Fleetwood/Chevy P30 chassis electrical issues

Livingstone's RV repair handbook is worth it's price.  i added a ground strap connector; used the boost start switch, the engine started up and the ammeter showed the charging system working. even without the gauge, the brightness of the lights indicated it was charging correctly.  baby steps...

    1984 Fleetwood/Chevy P30 chassis electrical issues

took off the alternator tonight and carried it to Autozone to have it checked; found out that A; they don't like being told how to do their jobs (i worked for Autozone and still work in auto parts) and B; the alternator is okay. hmmmm. this leads me to the theory that i still have a lot to do...

Keeping my MH in the lane

before i got the coach i had driven a Fuso truck for MANY miles, so being on top or ahead of the steering wheels isn't new to me. what WAS new was the overhang. when a semi gets alongside, the air pressure is daunting. but keeping focused further down the highway helps a lot. (driving the Fuso...

electric heat and repairing bay doors

back ups are the propane space heaters; they work great but storing bottles/disposing empties is a hassle i'd rather keep to a minimum. i noticed yesterday that once the sun hits her, the coach heats up pretty quickly~  but just as quickly cools down once the sun is down! it stays pretty...

electric heat and repairing bay doors

i was also considering rigid foam to put in them as well, instead of plywood. i can't tell how the frame is put together so i can reassemble it if i take it apart. i was planning on using shore power for the most part; trying to avoid the gas if i can.  we have two space heaters that just one...

electric heat and repairing bay doors

hooray for Saturday and time to actually do some work on the coach; the PO removed the gas furnace years ago and used space heaters; i'd like to install a heater but not a gas one. anyone recommend a unit that will work on our '84 Fleetwood 33'? also; going over the outside, i found one of the...

replacing bias 8R-19.5 tires with radials on 1984 Fleetwood MH?

color me stupid. i don't have lots of time to do stuff until the weekend, and looking at the coach today i see that it HAS radial tires on it. hurka durka durr. been doing a LOT of shopping for new tires; MAN there's a vast gulf in prices on them. i don't plan on putting thousands after...

replacing bias 8R-19.5 tires with radials on 1984 Fleetwood MH?

the old wagon needs new tires, and i thought i'd seen something on replacing bias plies with radials in this size. any recommendations? i.e., keep the bias, forget the radials, or go for it and get - not sure WHAT in benefits from the change, maybe more mpg? on a further note: the GM ten bolt...

    Another Motor Home Fire!

can i make a suggestion regarding the thread title on items like these? not to lessen the impact or importance  of the incident itself, but seeing the title pop up near the top as new replies are posted might suggest that many more reefer fires are happening than actually are. perhaps the date...

Help! Blue painters tape is pulling off my faux wood sticker!

a trick pro painters use is to first apply the tape to your pant leg and then lift it off, THEN apply it to the job. this weakens the adhesive somewhat yet leaves it sticky enough to last the job. another trick is to remove the tape as soon as possible after the job is done. i'm surprised blue...

P30 '84 fleetwood battery setup question

got it where i think it's correct/works; replaced a couple of questionable cables, and replaced the lost alternator belt. then, for the life of me, couldn't find my jumper cables to jump the coach off with my car. high and low, near and far. borrowed a set from a neighbor and got her fired up...

P30 '84 fleetwood battery setup question

i don't know why my automotive electrical training wasn't kicking in, Gary; i realized last night after much pondering that there are few grounds to chassis metal on this coach. the builders put relays onto plywood, then put ground wires onto the attaching screws... which are not grounding...

P30 '84 fleetwood battery setup question

okay; i have separated the house power battery from the chassis battery I THINK. problem is, now i can't get the engine to turn over. i get the "dead battery" clicking solenoid and nothing else.  the PO had ALL the power sourced off the chassis battery so i was pretty much shooting in the dark...

    questions about Fleetwood Southwind 1984

the more i look at it, i think the PO simply discarded the batteries as they failed and kept transferring the various loads onto the remaining one. i just have to determine what should be on the chassis battery (not much except the engine if i'm correct) and what should be on house batteries.  i...
