    1st long distance trip

I would come up with a set of items to check on a routine basis. For me, it was (1) check the tire pressures every morning, (2) visually inspect the tires and hitch connection at every stop, (3) do one last visual check after hitching up and you think you?re ready to pull out.  Other than that...

Looking To Buy My First Travel Trailer

I had a 33? travel trailer that the manufacturer rated as having a 900 lb tongue weight unloaded.  Well that turned into 1200 lbs loaded up.  I was fine because I have a 3/4 ton and air bags. Honestly, unless you?re doing short trips on flat land, I would stick with a TT under 30? if you?re...

    Which 5th wheel to buy???

PLEASE give attention to the advice above.  The ?tow rating? on the truck you?re considering is marketing hype.  You need to look at the payload capacity, NOT the tow rating.  There?s a strong chance you?re going to be overloaded with a 12K loaded 5th wheel.  The pin weight is huge on a 5th...

    invisibrake vs. brakeBuddy

I just bought a Ready Brute Elite tow bar that includes the Ready Brake cable system.  I installed the Ready Brake myself, and it's a very simple system that looks to be reliable.  And it's built in, so no box to install and remove all the time.  It's also way cheaper than the other built in...

Using a weight Distribution Hitch when backing camper onto site.

I always remove my bars if it's a decently sharp back in.

    Flat Towing F-250

Take that truck to a truck scale because I'm certain it weighs more than 6,700.  I have a 2013 F250 diesel crew cab, short bed, and it weighed 8,000 at the scales.

Class A with 5K tow limit + Wrangler Unlimited?

Thanks for the real world sanity check.  To complete the story, I'm actually going to buy it for them.

Class A with 5K tow limit + Wrangler Unlimited?

This is actually a question for my parents.  They have a 2016 32' gas Class A with a 5K towing limit.  They're looking for a TOAD and are considering the Wrangler Unlimited, which weighs 4,300 pounds from what I can find.  Any advice on whether they can comfortably tow it?  Anyone towing a...

Going to purchase FW, Do I need to be concerned width and the length?

Check again - the COMPONENTS are the same, except that the F350 has a taller block to raise the bed a few inches and all F350's come with overload springs.  The ccc difference comes from the F350 starting from a higher GVWR vs 10K for the F250.  The starting GVWR is purely artificial. ...

Going to purchase FW, Do I need to be concerned width and the length?

37-39 feet will likely still be too heavy on the pin weight.  The F350 has basically the same carrying capacity as the F250 - same axles and everything else.  It's just that the F350 has a higher starting "sticker" rating, but in reality both trucks have the same capacity.  Unless you get the...

Going to purchase FW, Do I need to be concerned width and the length?

Did you get the dually?  If not, I think you're going to be disappointed by how much fifth wheel you can actually carry.  I wouldn't do a fifth wheel approaching 40' without a dually truck.

Suggestions for truck to pull 5th wheel

+1 to the recommendations for a 1 ton, diesel, dually. Once you have the truck, I recommend looking into adding an external fuel tank or replacing the OEM tank with a larger one.  It's a huge convenience not having to refuel as often.  With a large rig, finding gas stations to refuel isn't...

    Grand Design 27RL & F150

I bet the pin weight on that 5th wheel will be closer to 2K loaded up, and that doesn't take into account the other stuff you put in your truck, like passengers.  All of those pounds in the truck take away from payload capacity, as you know. Plus, your truck has  5' bed.  Even a standard 3/4...

Searching for the perfect lightweight family fifth wheel. Does it even exist?

Sorry but you need to seriously revisit your options because a fifth wheel will seriously overload your truck.  The tow ratings are marketing hype, and don't take into account towing a big box like an RV. That Grand Design 28BH model will likely have a loaded hitch weight of more than 2000...

    1/2 Ton Vs. 3/4 Ton

I agree with everyone else - you definitely want a 3/4 ton. Also, your trailer only has D load rated tires?  That sounds too light.  You may want to research whether to replace with E load rated tires.  I bet your TT will weight close to 9K pounds loaded up.
