    Gas Verses Diesel

We can relate to that. My father in-law had to retire under disability due to a degenerative back disorder. He recently found a small Ford chassis B-class I think, E350 cutaway with small fiberglass body just big enough to cover the duals, 19ft. Small enough so the mother in-law could help drive...

This thing has become a nightmare !!!

The big chain stores, autozone/advanced auto etc, are a riot tryiing to get motorhome parts for. All I needed was a 12v lift pump, typical hi-perf aftermarket automotive style. Original was a Carter pump that looking in the 100GPH range. Took it in and showed them what I wanted, typical...

    Information on exhaust manifolds !!!

How have the manifolds been holding up on the 8.1L GM gas engines? Those manifolds were supposed to be made of a cast stainless/iron mix of some form to help with warping and cracking under heavy use. If they are holding up better than the standard cast units that would be another option...

    Am I Being Unreasonable ?

Must be different at RV dealerships. In the '90s I worked at one of the oldest Buick dealers in the country. We pulled needed parts off of lot cars if needed in a pinch, I was even instructed to pull some HVAC modules out of a ParkAve while it sat on the showroom floor to repair a customers car...

1994 Fleetwood Flair 32 feet Diesel, Auto, $25K good deal or not ?

In our part of Michigan that we've taken it the terrain doesn't have lots of long large hills. When out and about we tow the 7500lb '98 Dodge/Cummins behind for a GCVW of ~23,000lbs(scaled) and average ~10mpg. Could be wrong but have been told by a few that it could see in 13-14mpg not towing...

1994 Fleetwood Flair 32 feet Diesel, Auto, $25K good deal or not ?

Karl, Ron, Thanks for the clarification on the fuel type. I wasn't too sure on how the LP/Diesel debate has played out. Was commenting more on the brand of gen vs. fuel type. For the record we have a Kohler LP unit. Don't have enough run hours on it to base fuel consumption but is still...

1994 Fleetwood Flair 32 feet Diesel, Auto, $25K good deal or not ?

On what you added: Plus column: Oshkosh chassis Onan generator low mileage for the chassis two roof a/cs Minus: 6.5L Diesel, fairly big minus IMO. Let me add some details on this opinion. First our 32' has a Cummins 190hp 5.9L Diesel and allison AT542 auto trans, 4 spd no overdrive but...

1994 Fleetwood Flair 32 feet Diesel, Auto, $25K good deal or not ?

Need a little more info, engine size, how many speed trans, 2 a/c units? on board gen set? LP or Diesel gen? etc While looking at new 5th wheels we had two offers of $17K on trade for our Georgie Boy. It is about the same year, more miles, smooth sides with all awnings but not hydraulic...

Question for Monaco or Cummins techs

Tom, While not a Cummins tech I was a ASE auto/light truck tech. They make hose pliers to pinch off heater hoses without damage. We used them quite often when installing a tee into the heater hose for coolant flushes. The pliers are of a ratcheting style so you don't have to constantly hold...

    Buying older motorhomes

There are some decent unit out there if you look around. We found ours while looking at 5th wheels. So far I've put in a few hours of repairs. Replaced electric lift pump and mechanical injection pump. The coach waterpump, was original,  exhaust, vacuum pump and various small stuff. Major...

    Pennzoil lube service ok?

On the very rare occasion that I used a quick lube I ALWAYS supply them with a quality filter. I would never use a quick lube generic filter. Fleetgaurd for the Diesel and have switched to Donaldson for the gassers since AC Delco sent production to Mexico. Regardless of what they may say quality...

holley quadrajet, edelbrock quadrajet, or EFI retrofit

Need more info on your rig first. Is it a '70s, 80s or early '90s? Any mods done to it yet? What are you trying to get out of the swap? I'll cast a vote for keeping the Q-jet. The factory carb for the 454 flows around 800 cfm and is capable of some decent HP #s and excellent driveability...

    tranny fluid

You have the 4L80E transmission. On most trans temp gauges I installed them in the "hot" oil cooler line, that's the line going to the cooler. That will show the hottest temp the fluid sees but will also result in a much more active gauge. Installing the gauge in the pan will show the average...

    Cummins Diesel Engines--Reliable???

With only 10K it isn't even fully broken in. We'd really like to have that 275hp in our motor home, currently have the 190HP 5.9L Cummins. It also has 139,000 miles on it. Only major part it needed was an injection pump. The owners manual for ours stated the engine was warrantied for 300K...

    Diesel Puller vs: Diesel Pusher

You hit the nail on the head with our coach. 4 speed allison, mono beam front axle with leafs and hydraulic brakes. Definetly entry level for a Diesel but sure beats a class C or a P30 chassis. I figure general maintenance should see this chassis going 300K, I know the powertrains are built for...
