Best advice I can give you is look at google maps when you get to dalton and check how the traffic looks ahead and make your choice then. Most of the time 24/75 is not bad but when it is do what you can to avoid it.

Look at the mid bunk 5ers. I have seen some that had a small desk in the bunk room.

I have removed my tailgate when pulling the 5er, and it did make a difference in mileage. Started when we had a 98 sandpiper that was as aerodynamic as a brick. 7-8mpg with tailgate 9-10 without, and a side  benefit is that everything stayed put in the bed of my truck.
