Top 10 dumb things I've done!

I don't get it. I thought the US standard was 110/120v so how could you accidentally plug it into 220/240v  ???

Electrical Design - Have I missed anything?

Grid power in NZ is 60 Hz. My Honda generator is also 60Hz so I don't see a problem here.

    Inverter usage

Here's a simple answer to your coffee woes.... http://www.coleman.com/coleman/colemancom/detail.asp?product_id=5008C700&categoryid=27400 I've got one and it works great.

Electrical Design - Have I missed anything?

I thought about that Karl but a 3000w inverter will be overkill. I really only need it for TV/Sat/DVD/Microwave. I want to try and limit my AC usage for Boondocking. (How did you guys come up with that name?)

My first 5th Wheeler - so many questions

Well I've now decided on an electrical system - see my post here... http://www.rvforum.net/SMF_forum/index.php?topic=9624.0 Since I'm going to stick with a 110v factory system, I've already purchased a 120v Honda Eu3000 generator (am I the first person to buy a generator before an RV?)  and...

Electrical Design - Have I missed anything?

I'm really close on a Keystone Laredo or Crossroads Cruiser 5th Wheel. Either way, here's my plan on an electrical system and I just want to post it for comment, criticism or even ridicule... I'm in NZ and we are 240v here but I'm not about to pull a new 5th wheeler apart to convert it to 240v...

    Washing Machine?

Also worth considering is water consumption. A top loader will consume about twice the amount of water as a front loader. In addition, front loaders generally wash much better and are more gentle on clothes. I don't know much about RV's, but I know about washing machines.  I used to work for AEG...

My first 5th Wheeler - so many questions

Digging deeper, this dealer is actually a broker. I'm now talking to a few Laredo dealers around LA and they say they'll match any price.

My first 5th Wheeler - so many questions

Both dealers are quoting a new 07 model with the same specs. Both are well known "reputable" dealers with good feedback on this site. Ideally I'd prefer to deal with a west coast dealer but the difference of $8000 is making this difficult.  ??? Both dealers said that for my spec, they would...

My first 5th Wheeler - so many questions

Thanks for all your help so far guys. Appreciate it. I've spent weeks researching and I quite like the Keystone Laredo's. I'm looking at the model 29RL and here's my question. One dealer in CA has quoted me $31,500 and another in NY $23,500 delivered to CA!!! Should I be nervous? The dealer in...

My first 5th Wheeler - so many questions

I'll just use the appliances that come with the coach, otherwise replacing all of these would be expensive. One thought... The 110v appliances (Microwave, Air Con, Converter & water heater) may be dual voltage ex factory. All these manufactures sell to global markets. I'll check with my contact...

My first 5th Wheeler - so many questions

I've done some research and I believe the most practical approach for rewiring is as follows; 1) Install a 240v to 110v transformer. This will only run the 12V converter and 110v appliances when connected to shore power or generator. 2) Rewire all the outlets to 240V. I'll have to change all...

My first 5th Wheeler - so many questions

Okay gents, my new question for the day... Am I correct in assuming that new RV's purchased in California attract state tax? I recall it's 10%. If so, I should be exempt as my unit will be exported.  ;D

My first 5th Wheeler - so many questions

I think they're nuts (I'm half Canadian so I'm not sure what that makes me). The thing is, we don't have an auto industry. We don't even assemble vehicles and there isn't any duty either. Everything is expensive here on the colony. I blame the British but it could have been worse. The French...
