    89 Winnebago, alternator causing short?

Well darn it all anyway.  Can you believe this was the problem all along? Side post battery that I didn't look at before I put it in, I just hooked it up the way the cables fell naturally.  Well this Winnie has been unnatural since I've been working on it so I don't know why this would be any...

    89 Winnebago, alternator causing short?

I learned this part the hard way recently when taking a motorcycle apart to do a bit of work to it.  I swear when I was younger my memory was better but now if it doesn't go back together the same day I might as well forget it. I'm going to hit this again pretty hard this weekend and see if I...

    89 Winnebago, alternator causing short?

Good advice. I'm positive that the house batteries are surely completely dead, so do I need to try throwing a charge into them? The alternator is an internal regulator deal.

    89 Winnebago, alternator causing short?

Almost positive, I'll feel quite stupid if that's the case but I'll check to be sure.

    89 Winnebago, alternator causing short?

We have an '89 Winnebago Chieftain which as been sitting for awhile and has developed a distressing issue. When I try to hook up the battery I get a massive arc and the fusible link for the main power from the starter has burned up.  I've traced this to the alternator but I think there's more...

    Number of batteries with solar?

Well so far I have made it since Tuesday on just my batteries leaving the panel out during the day.  It's been quite cloudy the last couple of days.  We don't watch TV so that's not a problem.  Mostly we use a couple of the cabin lights during the night and of course the water pump.  But I'm not...

    Number of batteries with solar?

Right now we are staying in a place where we don't have the ability to plug in.  We can run the generator but it is noisy and can get expensive with gas around $3/gallon.  We have an 85 watt solar panel which we are using to keep our batteries charged.  My question is:  will the two group 27...

    12 volt issues

Everyone, thanks for all the help.  Simple solution really, I should have known.  After tracing the battery cables looking for a fuse or something I realized they went up into the engine compartment.  I opened the hood and notice a bit box with quick fasteners on it.  Opened it up and there was...

    12 volt issues

Sorry about that, None of the 12 volt stuff will work without being plugged in.  Once I'm plugged in everything works.  I assume from this that the inverter is doing it's job, but that thing just plain confuses me.  The only thing I can think of is that maybe there is a solenoid or something...

    12 volt issues

Thanks for the responses, we have an inverter in the system, the only switch I know of right off the bat is the dash mounted switch for turning on internal power.  We have that on, the lights lit up anyway, and it controls some of the stuff in the coach, furnace blower, etc.  I'll check to see...

    12 volt issues

Hey everyone, I have a 1989 Winnebago Chieftain.  A couple of days ago while on the road the alternator went out, drained everything we had.  The only way to keep it running was to run the generator to provide some juice while we found a repair shop.  Well we got the alternator fixed and she...
