Why not to believe the sales staff

The salesman had one of the mechanics call me to explain the WD hitch and why payload didn't matter but the mechanic totally contradicted the salesman and said my understanding and interprutation of the weight ratings was correct. We were right at the max even with the WD hitch, which doesn't...

Why not to believe the sales staff

When we bought our trailer I had concerns with the available payload of my TV and the hitch weight of the trailer.  The salesman told me payload didn't matter and with the WD hitch I would be carrying zero weight from the trailer.  I was and still am new to towing but even at that time I knew he...

Sorry for beating a dead horse. Need help deciding how big a trailer I can tow.

I'm thinking I'll end up changing the gears.  A lot of what I read seemed to say save the money, gears aren't worth it, just down shift.  For what I need though, I think going to 4.30 will help tremendously.  I need higher rpm's at lower speed to take the tight turns combined with steep grades. ...

Sorry for beating a dead horse. Need help deciding how big a trailer I can tow.

It sounds like I need to scream the motor like I used to with my 4cyl Jeep, not towing anything of course, up the same road.  And thanks again, these are the kind of real world experiences I was hoping to hear about.

Sorry for beating a dead horse. Need help deciding how big a trailer I can tow.

Thank you guys for the all the replies.  I'm going to do a few more trips with the trailer I have now, see what happens when I adjust my driving, and then decide if I can handle dragging something bigger up there.  I think its just going to take some practice with the manual shifting. I played...

Sorry for beating a dead horse. Need help deciding how big a trailer I can tow.

I did end up going down the performance road so to speak but that wasn't my intent. I guess what I wanted to hear about were peoples experiences when they stepped up to a larger trailer and how much of a difference the extra weight made. I was hoping somebody else may have experienced something...

Sorry for beating a dead horse. Need help deciding how big a trailer I can tow.

If money grows on trees I should move out of the desert.  I have on 06 Charger by West Coast Trailers.  I'm considering running a tune since the truck is almost out of warranty anyway.  The hp and torque gains aren't tremendous but it also changes shift points and firms it up when it does...

Sorry for beating a dead horse. Need help deciding how big a trailer I can tow.

I would love a supercharger but those are buku money.  The toy hauler itself could be heavier since I haven't weighed it and the listed dry weight of 4000lbs isn't gospel. It only has a 50gal fresh water though and I make sure the wife and kids don't bring any rocks with them that we don't need...

Sorry for beating a dead horse. Need help deciding how big a trailer I can tow.

Thanks for the replies but I think my subject line was misleading. I know how big a trailer my truck can handle on paper and I'll be well under that even with all the stuff I put in the truck. I want to stay smaller to fit into certain places.  I do use the tow button. It is nice because it...

Hahaha, thanks anyway. If nothing else you can provide the comedy relief.

Sorry for beating a dead horse. Need help deciding how big a trailer I can tow.

I'm thinking of buying a larger toy hauler.  Right now I pull an 18ft toy hauler that weighs 4000lbs dry and about 5000lbs loaded for camping, no motorcycles just camping supplies and water.  I'm looking at getting something in the 20-25 ft range and a dry weight between 5500 and 6500 lbs.  I...

    Looking forward to learning

I just joined the RV Forum and am looking forward to learning as much as I can about RVing. I purchased a little toy hauler about 1 1/2 years ago and have taken it out about 8 times both to the desert for riding and just up to the mountains for camping. Its been fun so far but the more I do it...
