Tow Ratings for Dodge Ram 1500 with 20" OEM Wheels

A very good point.  Again, makes me wonder if the drop in tow rating for 20" wheels by Dodge was indeed a result of the load rating on the OEM tire. I've been watching the General Grabber HTS as a potential replacement which has an XL load rating of 1192, vs the Goodyear Wrangler HP OEM tire...

    Virtual Test Drive?

You are right on both counts....to some extent. In further checking I discover that the GVWR of the trailer I've purchased (yes, I put a deposit on it today) is 7484 lbs.  That means that if I do load it up to capacity before I tow I'm left with a 4% margin, assuming the tow ratings published...

    Virtual Test Drive?

As I said I feel pretty confident, as it appears that my trucks rated tow capacity is conservatively listed, but it's really hard to tell.  Here's why: Again, I own a 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 QC 2WD SB 3.92:1 Auto with OEM 20" Wheels. I want with everything I've got to believe that I have a higher...

    Virtual Test Drive?

Thanks for the response. GVWR of the Zeppelin isn't listed but dry wt. + cargo capacity = 7000. GVWR of the Resort is 7580 lbs. By those numbers I can understand the concern, but....    (I know, I know...I've seen people get in trouble here negotiating tow capacity before....) It seems the...

    Virtual Test Drive?

Since it's not always easy to test drive a new trailer, I wonder if those more experienced here might comment on what the towing differences might feel like between my existing set up, and a new one that I'm considering: Currently I tow with a 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 Quad Cab 2WD 3.92:1 with 20"...

Tow Ratings for Dodge Ram 1500 with 20" OEM Wheels

Hey Lowell, Good to hear from you again.  We posted back and forth when I first joined this forum back in Dec 06.  You bring up a good point.  Haven't had a chance to check the load ratings of the low profile 20" vs. the larger profile 17" tire and wheel package.  However, I suspect that one...

Tow Ratings for Dodge Ram 1500 with 20" OEM Wheels

Hey Ron, I'm real curious about the dry weight of your 5th wheel, how long you've been towing it, and what it's like.  I tow a 30' TT at 4800 lbs. dry.  I originally went that route after being advised that my 1500 with OEM 20"/392:1/QC/2WD had a tow rating of 7750.  The brochure for that...

Tow Ratings for Dodge Ram 1500 with 20" OEM Wheels

I've been researching the above subject for some time now and stumbled across an interesting statement made about the effect of 20" OEM wheels on the Dodge Ram 1500.  Although I've been told, and apparently an older version of the Trailer Life Towing Guide also states that the 20" wheel...

The beginning of a a Keystone Zeppelin Quality Post

My but it's been a very long time since I've posted here.  I stumbled across my post here and thought that after four years of Zeppelin ownership I'd update my post: In short....we've loved the trailer.  I've only had one real problem which required a significant repair following a break in one...

    Economy Solar Systems

Further question: Approximately how long would it take to charge to 90% or so two 12V batteries that were down to about 50%, with no minimum load during the charge period, at say 45 watts & 3 amps charge rate?

Why do trailer lug nuts loosen?

Thanks for the reply Karl The lugs are tapered, and I'm torquing in a typical star pattern.  When I say they loosen, I'm talking about a very small amount of rotation that takes place when I re-torque, as in just a few degrees. Carl L. says that this occurs less after 500 - 1000 miles or so...

Why do trailer lug nuts loosen?

A good question....actually. Yes, thanks.  The trailer is an ultra-light weight.  And the wheels are standard industry trailer wheels of proper rating. This morning before returning home I retorqued again to 100 lb. ft.  Only a smidge of rotation on about half of the lugs before a click on my...

Why do trailer lug nuts loosen?

Interesting.... I don't think that I would have attributed that to the cause.  I would have likely assumed vibration or heavy bounce/impact loads. So....everyone's lugs loosen a bit as a normal occurance?    :)

Why do trailer lug nuts loosen?

Thanks for the reply. Aftermarket chrome rims were purchased from America's tire.  (Pimpin' out the travel trailer...ya know  :-) America's tire cautioned to torque to 80 lb. ft., stating that 110 - 120 lb. ft. was too much and might snap 1/2" lugs. I've been torquing to 100 lb. ft., with...
