Here is something you might not know about RVs

My brother had one in his class A DP. He took it out, problem solved. No more hot water problems.  We're both plumbers and electricians by trade and work on mobile homes exclusively and deal with these dumb things on a daily basis, however, we can't remove them.

    Oil changes

I am with old-crow, I use Castrol in my Ford gas engines, don't know why but I like using Motorcraft filters, I know they don't make filters, must be a psychological thing. Been using Castrol in all my gas engines and Rotella in my Diesels and Mobile-1 in my GL1800 Goldwing. Never had an engine...

Did my water heater element burn out? Puzzling?

Best way to check it is to take the 2 wires loose from the element itself and check it with an ohm meter. Put the leads on the terminals of the element and normally a good element will read 11.3 - 12.8 ohms resistance.  Infinity reading is shorted, no reading at all is burned into (no continuity...

    RV panel electrical question

According to NEC, (National Electrical Code),  #4 THHN is suitable for 95 amps,  #4 THWN is suitable for 85 amps and #4 THW is suitable for 70 amps.  THHN insulation is 90 degrees C, THWN is 75 degrees C and THW is 60 degrees C.  So insulation type is important but 99.99 percent of the wire...

    Locked out - Never again

That's what makes the push button combo. locks on the Fords nice. Just leave all the keys inside and lock everything up and forget about it. OR. Just don't ever lock anything.

    New RV park owner

I totally disagree, it's just 2 single 50 amp legs of power, not a 100. Just like a 3 phase 50 amp is just 3 single 50 amp legs, not a total of 150 amps. Put an amp meter on any leg and only see 50, period. I'll argue this point till the cows come home.

I too am an electrical contractor in Oklahoma and what some of you folks are telling these people, that 2 50 amp legs is a 100 amp service is WROOOONG. It's still just 50 amp, yes you may be able to carry 50 amps on each leg but you'll only have the unbalanced load through the neutral. You...

    sub panel....

I agree with Gary 100%, someone asking these types of questions needs to get a professional to do the job. As for the Federal Pacific breakers, there are retrofits available but 1 breaker will cost more than a whole new Challenger/Cutler Hammer panel with all the breakers. I am an electrical...

    Building an RV Garage

I agree with Rene T pretty much.  Do the least you have to do to get it inspected and approved and get rid of the inspectors then go to town doing whatever you want to do in it. If you start asking "authorities" questions, they start making up answers because they assume if you're asking you...

    JohnRR

malexander got me banned from irv2. I had used his computer at his shop looking at and reading things. They ASSumed he had two user names and banned me also. I emailed the moderators, or someone, about it, didn't make any difference to them. Oh well, last time I did post a question on there...

    Occasional breaker trip

You might also pull the cover off the a/c and clean it out. I use a water hose and wash out the condenser coil from the inside out. If the condenser coil gets too dirty it causes the high pressure to rise thus causing a higher current (amp) draw. Cottonwood seeds will cause problems if too many...

Hooking up TT to house power and dumping if needed.

I agree with Scotty and Oladgator both.  Plug in to a standard 15 amp recep on the side of the house, they re usually on a 20 amp breaker unless you live in a mobile home and the general lighting circuits on them are usually #14 wire on 15 amp breakers. It will work fine to prep the RV for a...

Any pilots or aviation geeks out there?

PPL since March 1977. Currently partner in C-150, built and own Vans RV9A, been flying it for 8 years now and have 350 hrs. in it. Really a fun flying airplane, actually easier to fly than the 150.

    turn signal not working.

I seriously doubt you have a self re-setting breaker anywhere, especially if only one side is giving you problems. I think you just have a bad connection somewhere. Not a bad ground though, but it could be. It's really hard to trouble shoot without a volt meter. It's easy to check with a meter...

Question about over heating and coolant

I wouldn't use it! I'd find a good diesel engine shop and try to get something from them.  I wouldn't care if it were a Cummins dealer, they most likely would steer you in the right direction.  Is there a Rush Diesel shop around there? They'd most likely have what you need.
