My newbie thoughts on buying an RV - and the ones we've looked at so far...

Yes to checking or knowing condition of tires, batteries, refrigerator and all the rest of the electrical and plumbing systems.  You don't take your house on wheels down the road at 60-79 mph and not have things come loose.  Engine condition, mileage, hoses and clamps too while you're at it. ...

My newbie thoughts on buying an RV - and the ones we've looked at so far...

Lessons learned.  Our first RV, a gas front engine 26' GMC was $11K and then we put more than that into upgrades and repairs starting with new tires all around.  Second one, a 34' diesel pusher was very low mileage (18K) and only 4 hours on the genset and very few repairs, no upgrades but more...

    Engine insulation

Insulated, foil covered, fire and heat retardant material cut to space and either stapled or using metal strips and screwed in seems to work fine. Do not try to use tape or glue as the heat will melt a lot of stuff.

    Tiffin vs. Winnebago

Either OK, esp if cost not a concern.  Either will require repairs.  We have a Tiffin 06 Allegro Bus 39', two slides, and love it most of the time.  Have been on the road and in Mexico for the past three months, looking forward to more travel adventures.  Our engine is a 400 Cummins which tows...

safe to expect an available space near Winslow, AZ in early April?

We love Homolovi, very close to Winslow and don't miss breakfast at La Posada!  We have made it a point to stop over there several times.  Homolovi Ruins state park very clean, great views, quiet and everything works well.  Watch for the bumps going in and turn left before you get to the...

    Three months in Mexico

Have been doing Mexico for about 10 years and in spite of scare tactics in a lot of U.S. press, it's still a great place for RV'ers although fewer from U.S. coming down now.  There is some speculation that U.S. does not want their dollars going south, esp retirement dollars and tourist money. ...

Planning to Buy a Class B

Rocky, You will probably make it work to your great satisfaction. Different people have different needs, expectations and requirements.  Ease of maneuvering, efficient fuel consumption, and the ability to park almost anywhere rank very big for many folks.  It's why we're thinking of adding a...

Planning to Buy a Class B

We had a class B after a Class A and now back to Class A with thoughts of adding a truck camper to the fleet.  We had a 2008 Roadtrek on the Dodge Sprinter Chassis with a Mercedes diesel engine.  Great mileage!  BUT, I am 6'2" and there was not enough headroom and after two 5000 mile trips we...

About to purchase Diesel Pusher but so worried HELP anyone?

Lots of options for towed cars and vehicles and there's a list somewhere, either FMCA, Good Sam or one of these forums.  We have a Jeep and before that towed an Explorer.  Be sure to check that you can tow with all four wheels down and without conversion of drive shaft or gears.  Braking system...

    Why buy a truck camper

OK, we have a Class A diesel, 38 feet, 11 inches, 8' plus mirrors wide, with two slide-outs and it's very comfortable and would be possible to live in full time.  We are currently in Mexico for 3 months and loving it . However, I want to add a truck camper to the fleet.  DW is mildly...

    Travelling from BC to Baja

We made the trip from San Diego (Chula Vista) crossing January 9, heading for Los Barilles, about 45 miles north of Cabo San Lucas. The other Cabo and Todo Santos a little farther depending on which way you go after La Paz.  What I can tell you is to be sure you have Mike and Terri Church's book...

Internet and TV connections in Mexico

Thanks!  How about support from Motosat which is no longer Motosat? I understand the successor, MoSat is still in business with many of the same people.  Data Storm users has a very active group and forum and those receivers and antennae seem to be still working just fine.  We hoped we might...

Internet and TV connections in Mexico

Haven't tried the bat wing here but friend in San Miguel uses that and it's just Mexican stations, understandably.  We miss our old set-up as it worked great this far down.  However understand that SatMex 5 will be no longer available and don't know about SatMex 6 yet. We're exploring Shaw...
