    Thoughts on these LT tires?

The maxis 8008 cost a little more than some of the other trailer tires available now, like the STC. I just bought a couple for my boat trailer, so we will see how they do. They are still on the floor of my shop though. I would stay with a 225/75r15 E and not mess with changing wheels. Keep the...

D rated tires vs E rated tires

The dealer isn't giving you any kind of a deal on the new tires. Do yourself a favor and price shop at a few of these online tire dealers: onlinetires.com, tirerack.com, tirebuyer.com, discountiredirect.com I can tell you that I just sold a set of 225/75r15 E for 92.00 each + 9.00 mount and...

    Thoughts on these LT tires?

Just out of curiousity, what are the axle ratings on your trailer? My 5er is 11,500 gvw, has 5200 lb axles and came stock with 225/75r16 tires load range E. They are rated at 2680 each @ 80 psi.  The 225/75r15 E are rated at 2830 each. All the tires you mentioned are good tires, go with whatever...

The heating elements can burn out if run without water also. Simple test with an ohm meter, make sure there is continuity between the two terminals on the plug.

Onan 5500 Generator ... what oil??

Use a diesel specific 15/40 oil, there are lots of good choices, Delo 400, Shell Rotella, Mobil Delvac are all good. If you are going to use the generator in a very cold climate, consider Rotella 5/40 synthetic for easier cold starts. Walmart is a good choice for value on these oils.

    2002 gmc2500hd 6.0 pulling question?

Biggest thing with a 6.0 is don't lug the engine. If you can lock out overdrive, do it and run in tow haul, try to keep rpms between 2000 and 3000, but 4000 won't hurt if needed to pull a hill.

    2005 Ford F250 V10 or 2003 K2500 Suburban

8.1's are towing beasts as long as you don't mind feeding them the fuel. The 8.1 has quite a bit more grunt than the V-10 ford. Are you having overheating issues with the 8.1? If so, some preventative maintenance could help. Start with a good cleaning of the radiatior and a/c condensor and make...

question about towing with a diesels

When engineers set out to design a diesel truck, they make the combination for the most part idiot proof. You can hook on to the max rated trailer and head for a steep mountain pass and mash the throttle all the way up and never do any harm. But then, we add larger tires, larger trailer, extra...

    Onan hdkbb 5500 QD

How many hours on the genset? I just rebuilt one of these and there is a wire that can be hooked up for 50 hz and it is left disconnected for 60 hz. I can't remember exactly where it plugs into, but it was shown in the repair manual that I bought.

    Problems with gel coat repairs

At this point, the repairs are complete with the exception of several areas of the gel coat that won't cure. If the gel coat is reacting with uncured hardener in the epoxy, how would you know. The epoxy was set up hard and seemed fully cured. The epoxy was allowed to cure for several weeks...

    Problems with gel coat repairs

I have repaired some damaged fiberglass on my front and rear caps on my 5er. I used epoxy resin with some different types of glass matt and for the most part the repairs went ok with the exception of how long the epoxy resin takes to set up. No for the problem. I blended the repair areas with...

Double towing 30' 5th wheel side load toy hauler

Wyoming allows 85 feet and I tow doubles quite often. Sometimes my 16' boat is behind my 30' 5er and sometimes my horse trailer with 3 horses that gives me a gross combined weight upwards of 27,000 lbs. This is where the big issue comes into play, a class C license is only good for 26,001 lbs...

question about towing with a diesels

As a long time mechanic, I can tell you that all vehicles and drivetrains have problems. My best ever to date has been the allison trans used behind the duramax. I am currently at 190k with over 500 rear wheel hp. My other duramax has 210k with no tranny issues at all. As for your NV 4500, nice...
