What kind of pocket knife do you carry?

A Case Stockman style (three blades) in my pocket and a Gerber multi-tool on my belt. I really like being able to pull out the Gerber and have a pair of pliers with just a flick of the wrist. The screwdriver tips have also saved innumerable trips to the shop or garage just for quick repairs.

What do you miss from home?

Like other posters, we live in the woods. That means when we’re camping, we often feel surrounded. Even though we’re camping, we’re never as isolated, quiet and private as we are at home. And of course, I miss my shop, DW misses her plants and we both miss the grandchildren. Most trips are a...

    Wormsloe Historic Site Savannah, GA

We visited Wormesloe while camping at Skidaway Island a few years ago. We had a good time and were very impressed with the park. Very informative and lots of history we weren’t aware of before our visit.

    Electric brakes

Possibility worn magnets or drums where the magnets make contact.

    Something Stuck In Slide Out

We had the smoke detector fall off the ceiling and onto the top of the slide one trip. We didn’t notice it was missing until we heard the crunch when it got pinned between the top edge of the slide and the wall when we opened the slide. Probably not your issue, but it’s worth a shot to check for...

    Alabama-Tenn football

After a 36 year career in Fire and EMS in Gainesville, Fl (home of the Gators), I feel for those folks on duty in Knoxville that night! I’m sure that turned out to be a long, hard shift.

    Going Out To Eat

DW has a number of weird food allergies so it’s very rare for us to eat out. She buys and fixes what she can eat without having unpleasant reaction. Especially when we’re on the road and we’re not familiar with the local establishments. We can always find groceries and fix what we want back at...

What Did You Do To Your RV This Week?

This week was general cleaning up and getting ready to get on the road for the next four weeks or so. Last week was a new ac/roof gasket. Since mid-May I’ve replaced bearings, seals, brakes, and hubs; slide seals, repaired the slide roof and sagging header to fix a leak, installed a slide...

I-77 through Charlotte or I-485 around Charlotte?

We take 77 through Charlotte both ways a couple of times a year. Going up in three weeks in fact. If you are coming southbound, the traffic coming into town can start to slow down 20 miles out of town during the morning commute. We’ve never gone through on a Sat afternoon, opting for Sunday...

    Great Backing Life Hack

Although we don’t FaceTime, DW has been spotting me into campsites with our phones for years. Her call comes into the trucks stereo via Bluetooth so I don’t even have to hold my phone. Infinitely easier that yelling back and forth or windmilling arms. And as Rene said, if I can’t see her in the...

Slip slidin' away ... slide questions

The biggest problem we have had with our slide has been water intrusion. It is 12’ long and over the years, started to sag in the middle. Hardly noticeable, but enough so that the seals along the top didn’t seat well enough and let rain water seep in. I was able to make a repair, but it was time...

Replacing Trailer brakes - which manufactures to stay away from?

I didn’t mean to hijack the thread, but thanks for the advice on my comments. I’m on board with a break in period, but since the breaks wouldn’t even lock up on the sandy dirt road out to the highway, I need to do a little more work before we go out in traffic with it! New drums coming on Monday.

Replacing Trailer brakes - which manufactures to stay away from?

I just replaced all four brakes with the complete kits from ETrailer this week. All new components from the backing plate out and a very easy swap. My issue now is that the drums all have scoring on the surface the magnets contact to actuate the brakes so even though all the components are new...

    Removing microwave?

We took ours out a few years ago at DW’s urging. She says she got quite enough radiation during breast cancer treatments, thank you very much. I have enough since not to argue, but to the question at hand, taking it out was as simple as unscrewing the trim, unplugging the unit and removing it...

    Gainesville Campgrounds?

Look into Hipcamp. There is a site listed on it on the outskirts of town (Hawthorne Road) that would be only about 15 minutes or so to Shands.
