I'd give Mor-Ryde http://www.morryde.com/ a call and discuss it with them. They are really nice people and are very familiar with this type problem. Being in Elkhart they deal with this a lot also.

GFI outlets can be wired 2 ways. First so it only protects itself. The other way it protects itself and downstream outlets hooked in series with it.
