Black tank almost fell out on the highway

I run with my black tank empty, except for about five gallons of "slosh" water added after dumping. The gray water has about two gallons. I have about a half tank of fresh water in case the Camp water tastes bad. Never an issue.

1/2 ton tow ability - trailer considerations

Here are my numbers, you can judge. Positives F-150, Eboust, 350+ hp, 1411 payload and towing package. We have towed 40,000 miles in six years. Excellent performance in the desert, Rockies, plains, Interstate and back roads with 9.5 to 10.0 mpg. Negatives My 25 ft. 5000# dry weight Dutchmen...

    Travel trailer year round?

Four Season depends on how hard you want to work, how comfortable you want to be and of course how much you want to spend. Folks in Alaska get by in small cabins with no electricity.  Once you solve the problems of black water dumping, frozen pipes, 2 inch wall insulation and single pane...

Buying a Quality Used Travel Trailer or RV - Brand Recommendations

The thing to remember is over 85% of the RVs are built it in Elkhart Indiana. They all use the same labor pool and materials. There is more variations within a brand, due to model variation costs than there is between brands. That is to say, that given a price range there is no one maker that...

Buying a Quality Used Travel Trailer or RV - Brand Recommendations

We bought ours from Campland in Burns harbor. Three years old and half the price of new. We were lucky because it has seen very little use. As mentioned, to find a good used TT at a low price, takes a lot of looking and a bit of luck.

    Drinking water hose storage.

My bumper stores my sewer hose, my fresh water hose is coiled in a bucket with lid. In fact the bucket holds two twenty five foot hoses.

    Generator

As you can tell, serious boondocking require a bit of thought and planning. Most anybody can work out a couple of days on non-electric camping, but extended boondocking is a different story. Hot water, microwaves and AC are taken for granted, until you are off grid. Good luck

    RV Quality

The RV industry build what sells. They have sold close to 500,000 units per year for the last Five years. The majority of these buyers are perfectly content with their piece if junk and most will upgrade to an even bigger piece of junk after a few years. The solution of course is for those...

    newbie tow questions-

I like when these commercials show an F-150 hauling horses, logs, construction trailers and such. You notice that there is only the driver in the cab. Yes my F-150 can tow a 9,500 lb. TT with 1,200 lbs. on the hitch; provided my wife, dog, tools and camp gears follow behind in another...

Best and worst of 20'-25' travel trailer quality

A lot depends on where and how much you camp. If you take a few trips to the local state parks, and a two week venture of say 1500 mile round trip, your TT will take a lot less wear and tears that the guy who puts three times the mileage boondocking on some unpaved back roads. In general the...

    newbie tow questions-

The math guess is easy, but the truth is at the CAT scales. Your truck has a sticker showing it max cargo limit. It is usually on the door jamb. Before you buy the TT, load your truck with family, toys, camp gear and everything else it is going to have in it when you hook up to the TT...

    Perceived difference between 3.73, 4.10 & 4.30 gears

I like to go with what the factory recommends for the load the truck was designed to handle. They know all the stress and weak point in their vehicles.

Different side to side level readings

"Level" on my TT is a matter of where you measure it. The floor may be level side to side but the counter tops are not, the slide is never level nor is the frame. Granted they are not off by much but level depends where you measure. We selected putting the  24" level on the floor the rest would...
