I removed the flimsy bumper on my 5th wheel and installed a Curt universal hitch that spans between the trailer frame. It bolts on. No welding required. Very strong and holds my 200lb genny with ease.

My landing gear actually has a key switch mounted right next to the up/down switch so i can lock it out and it can not be raised or lowered without the key. Gives me a small amount of extra security from kids playing around to having my 5'er driven off without my permission.

No misalignment anymore. Before I modified it the Bronze bushings that replaced the cheap plastic ones were binding and stiff. That really worried me about premature wear. Now everything moves easily with no binding. Should work perfect now.

I do believe the springs shifted when the rear hangers broke and that might have caused some misalignment but not as much as it is. I should have measured the distance between the springs and used that measurement to place the hangers on the I-beam. Live and learn. So I elongated the spring...
I just finished replacing all the spring hangers on my 5th wheel. I thought I replaced them in the exact same spot as the old ones. Right in the center of the I-beam. Now installing the axle the springs are a slight bit wider then the hangers. I got them in but they have some side force pushing...
I am adding a suspension kit and new spring hangers on my 5th wheel. Two of the hangers broke off and all the suspension pieces are very worn out. My trailer uses 4.25" hanger and 2.25" shackles. The hangers flex a lot when moving. I want to keep the trailer the same height. Was thinking of...
I bought this one on ebay. It doesn't have all the bells and whistle a Victron does but I don't need to find my phone to see what my battery is doing. Easy to read and been accurate so far. If it goes bad I can still buy 9 more for the price of a Victron. :) If you like techie stuff then get a...
LMAO, you guys are hilarious!
OK, I guess I wasn't super clear. The rear spring hangers that are welded to the underside of the frame have broken off so my springs are just resting against the frame. Now it is my understanding that it is not to uncommon for the rear spring hangers to break off...
I had the two rear hangers on my 22 yr old 5'er break off at the welds just like most do. I am removing all the hangers and welding on new ones. I cannot decide on boxing the end hangers or welding in V-clips. Does one one know if one is better than the other?

So you do these driving test with your trailer/5th wheel attached correct? What if you are wanting to pull doubles, like a boat behind the 5'er?

That looks great. Thinking of doubling my battery capacity to a whopping 4. ;D I would probably suggest securing the batteries down though. During traveling and hitting bumps the batteries can actually lift up off the floor slightly then come banging down. Over time it could possible shorten...
