You asked opinions, here's mine. 1.  They leak like everyone else. 2.  They can be very expensive for what you get. 3.  Without a slide, the money you'd spend for it vs MANY others, would be better spent for a solid unit that doesn't have water damage.....with a slide!  Just my 2 cents. 

Slide-outs are absolutely worth it if you spend any time in a camper.  If all you do is sleep in it and go out for diner every night, that may be a different story. I have done pop ups, non-slides, and slides.  I will not own a non-slide.
