Wiring battery combiner from tow vehicle to trailer

A few things come to mind. If this were a boat or a motorhome, the batteries would be close together, and there is an advantage to having the batteries combined (like one big battery) during charging, as the alternator will see the combined voltage and charge at the rate needed to charge all...

Travel Trailer- Wheel Bearings, when to pack?

Just need to say that this is a false statement. Temps are the same whether the hub is packed with grease or not, or within a few degrees. In fact some say the grease may actually dissipate the heat better than the air. Boat trailer manufactures have done it this way for years to aid in keeping...

does anyone have experience in installing hookups and RV pad on property?

I agree with this, in our village it is OK to park an RV for storage, or to have someone visit for a few weeks. To be permanently parked for several months and be hooked up to all utilities would be a zoning violation. And if you were hooked to our village sewer system you would be in violation...

    Equalizer bars?

Our travel trailer weighs in at 7800 lbs. It has 950 lbs tongue weight. I started out towing it with a Equalizer 1000 lb hitch, as that worked with our old trailer. I purchased a 1200 lb model last year, tows much better, feels stiffer and more stable, and the rear of the truck bounces less. I...

    anyone know who this is?

The winch is mounted to the truck on the ramp structure right behind the trucks rear windshield. The cable is then attached to the trailer a bit ahead of the trailer axle. Did anyone notice the trailer tongue jack attached to the trucks receiver to keep the truck stable when loading? Here is a...

Minnesota North Shore Fall Color RV Rally - September 2016

I would be interested in a MN or WI get together. Just spent a few days in a cabin a mile north of Grand Marais, right on the lake. Awesome view. Skied two days at Lutsen Mountains, even better views from the top of the mountain. If I has seen this post last fall, I would have attended. Winter...

Be careful if purchasing 2016 Forest Rivers with multiple batteries.

I stared at this diagram for quite a while before I looked at the replies. My mind kept saying, but the two banks are wired in parallel, and each bank is wired in series. That's ok. Looking at the replies it finally dawned on me, the parallel connections for both positive and negative are...

Need double tow 5th wheel options?

I have been considering this problem for a while also. I would like to begin double towing in the next few years. My state of WI has a 65' length limit. I have been looking at some small Jayco models, the shortest one is the 23.5RBS. A quick calculation brings you about 60' with a short bed...

    Collision coverage on trailer... why?

Not in my case, here is an excerpt of my policy. INSURING AGREEMENT - COLLISION COVERAGE If you pay the premium for this coverage, we will pay for sudden, direct, and accidental loss to a: 1. covered auto, including an attached trailer; or 2. non-owned auto; and its custom parts or equipment...

    Collision coverage on trailer... why?

I wonder the same thing too about having collision damage. If my trailer is hooked up to my truck, the collision coverage on the truck automatically covers the trailer.

    Fisher & Paykel crap

We have had a double drawer style for 13 years now. Nothing has broken yet (knock on wood), but I have just about disassembled them completely several times to clean water deposits. Put something just a whisker to tall in them and the cover doesn't seal and water leaks all over the floor. It was...

    electrical problems are killing me

It really could be any connection on the positive or ground side of the system. To check the circuit breakers, you could jump across the terminals with a jumper wire and see if the lights then work, or disconnect the wires from the breaker and hook them together, if they do, then you have found...

    electrical problems are killing me

I bet the ground wire where the batteries are grounded to the frame, or wherever the ground wire for the batteries terminates is loose or corroded. The bottom line is that enough current can pass from the batteries to show on your voltmeter, but not enough can pass to actually run anything.
