Fishing in the Bishop Ca. area

Has anyone fished in the Bishop area?

The last time I was there last year I did not catch anything.

Just wanted to know if they are stocking Trout.

Not familiar with the area, but I prefer places where they are not stocked--they fight more.

I don't know if location makes a difference, but when I really needed to catch fish (e.g. backpacking) and was fishing from shore I'd use floating Powerbait with a 2-3' leader off the sinker weight.  At one wilderness lake I could barely keep my line in the water.

Head north on Hwy 395 to the Mammoth area. Lots of fishing up there. My favorite is the Owens River area, and the June Loop area around Mammoth. Search on some of these places in this forum.

They had a problem of some kind in the fish hatcheries last year and had to destroy a awful lot of fish.  Last year, they got deliveries from hatcheries in Oregon I think it was.  This year they didn't stock.  Not sure what that means for next year.
