I know I have to take I 40 over the appalachian mts---but how bad is it with a 6,000 lb travel trailer and a silverado 1500 half ton with a trailer pkg ????----------wondering if I'm making a mistake--thanks for the help--gary in wisconsin

Your Silverado manual will tell your your towing capacity.

Google says it should tow 13,300 lbs for the 2021 model. So, if you have that one is sounds like you're just fine.

There is only one area thats a bit of a climb. Your setup, barring a low read end ratio on your truck should do the job. But even so its not a no-no route for you. Now further east past Swannanoa there is a steep decline on 40 that requires a lower gear coupled with being mindful of not getting your brakes too hot with some occasional braking for about 5 miles before it flattens out.
