I agree. i also had a plumbing failure. This is the reason I carry the spares and tools for most critical components, it sucks when you have to cut a trip short when a simple fix can be done.
 
I am somewhere in the middle on what I carry in terms of tools and spare parts, I do carry some spare parts (bulbs, bits of wire and wiring crimps, spare generator fuel pump and filter, spare MAF, crank / cam position sensor, some PEX shark bite fittings, repair tape,etc.). In general if it can be bought at the typical auto parts or big box store I don't carry it.
