Digital odometer added miles while parked.

I've got a 2000 Itasca Horizon Class A diesel. I parked it in the fall and had 98,000 miles the digital odometer.
The engine batteries were low when I went to start the coach so charged the batteries.
When I started the motorhome the odometer said 144,000 miles.
It added 46,000 miles to the odometer while parked in my driveway.
How is this possible?

It didn't change to Kilometers did it?

Although that would say 157,000 KM.

When i was in high school we went out at lunch and "borrowed" a car and went joy riding. Always returned the car in the same shape except for a few miles added to the odometer. Maybe some one has stole your RV and drove it around the world without you noticing it was gone.

My previous GMC YukonXL did a squirrely reset in the computer. It changed my engine hours to zero and restarted, about 1/2 way through my ownership. Not as dramatic as yours of course but does happen. I'm sure you can find a reputable company to adjust it, might ask for a recent service record to keep all parties honest. Good luck.

The ecm will have the correct mileage. Suggest you disconnect batteries for 10 minutes or so for reset. May not have enough disconnect time during battery change for reset. Low voltage can cause strange problems especially extended low voltage.

Could you have switched from MILES to Kilometers? (The diffrerence however is much bigger like 5 miles = 8 KM.

One day a buddy and I had that plan. Only the car broke down about 5 miles from school. So we just left it, walked half a mile to a little store and called a cab to get back to school.

You are lucky. I still feel pangs of guilt when I think about it. I wasn't a juvenile delinquent but I could have gone that way except I managed to straighten up.

Well we were about 10 minutes into our adventure when I learned that Steve didn’t really have permission to use her car. Still feel bad for her. Wasn’t something that I would have done had I known.

I'd contact a dealer about the issue... whoever made the chassis of your rig. I'm pretty sure there are some federal laws about requiring odometers to read accurately. There ought to be some kind of software reset that can be done. What the dealer may be allowed to charge for that service is the question...
