Good Morning Everyone,
My wife and I and our dog Charlie will be in Glacier at the West Glacier KOA on July 20-25 this summer. We are interested in the GTSR, however, entry tickets are required this summer and may be difficult to get (although we will try). We are interested in any information that we can get from anyone who has taken the Red Bus Tours. Are they worth it? The longest one is 8-9.5 hours. We know Charlie cannot go with us so we are also seeking Doggie Day Care for the day as well. Thank you for any insight.

Personally I would take my car, the last time we did the Sun Road we drove our car and it was good. I never priced the Red Cars but it did look like they were having a great time. I think Charlie would agree with me.

Our version of Charlie. Like yours but brown.

We were at Glacier two years ago on a 3 month trip to the PNW. I can honestly say that the Red Bus tour for the Going to the Sun Road (1/2 day) was the highlight of our trip. Without a doubt the fee was worth every penny. DH wants to do the full day Red Bus Tour if we go again. We definitely would not drive the road on our own.

The "Jammers" provide a lot of interesting history and know where to stop for the best photo opportunities.

The road is lovely on your own, and we have done 3-4 times. I was thinking the next time I want to take the tour though, just because of the tour operators. They are well known for providing lots of background on the road and area. I wish they were using more modern vehicles with bigger windows, though the older ones have cool exterior look. Better get your reservation quickly though! They book up.

Yes, the "Jammers" narratives are excellent. We liked that we could enjoy the scenery without worrying about the road, traffic, and parking. The Red Bus we traveled in had an open roof. So the Jammer would stop at picturesque locations so we could "pop up" and take pics. We had excellent weather so I'm not sure how it's handled in inclement weather but you could call and ask. Definitely make reservations. We started very early in the AM and enjoyed an excellent breakfast across from the entrance to the park. That way we arrived early in order to avoid the long lines into the park. We considered the vintage vehicles as part of the experience. Since we haven't driven the Road to the Sun and probably won't, this is just our perspective.
