I have a 1988 9' Hornet truck camper, and I am looking for a late 80's or early 90's 11' Hornet truck camper. The things are really well built, with the aluminum frames, and the weight vs. size is a LOT better than what is being sold nowadays. If anyone knows of a Hornet, on the large size, for sale, let me know!

Watch craigslist.com and eBay.

Good luck with the search, I don't know much about them, but find the reference to being built better than now interesting.  I had 2 older TC's and 2 newer.  Maybe Hornet had it right.  Sunline and Coachmen sure didn't.

Alum frame then was ahead of their time, most were wood and alum back then.

You might also check on www.rv.net/forums and check out Truck Campers, LOTS of activity there, 100's of posts per day.

Thanks for the leads. A couple of years ago, when we were at Disney,  I had to peel back some of the siding, to get at a leaking pipe in the bathroom sink, and found the alum. frame.
Hornet sistered in wood studs, to attach the interior and exterior siding. The camper is about 1900 lbs. dry, which is a lot less than what I can find out around New England. Very few truck camper dealers up here in VT, and the prices of new larger units are so much, that I thought it would be much cheaper to rehabilitate an older, well built camper. We tow a light boat, and the Hornet is on a F250. The Sunlites are good on weight, but are wood framed, and not as well finished, and the Lances are beautiful but way too heavy and pricey. The idea of a structurally strong frame, which is affordable and not in need of a one ton truck frame , has escaped the present generation of manufacturers. The only thing that I don't like about our Hornet is the "wings" on the back of each side. The last owners attached hyd. jacks to the totally wood frame, and they loosened up over the years.

There is a NorthEast Truck Camper Club.  Good group.  I was in it when we lived up that way.  If you google the name you should find info.

Been to Polar RV over in NH?  Good guys, might get on their list for a trade coming in.

I just bought a Hornet truck camper also. I am having problems figuring out the year. All I can see on the tag is the SN: and the weight. It is made for a 8 foot bed probably hangs over 2 feet So guessing its a 10 foot. Does anyone know how I can get info about this Truck camper with the SN?

Welcome to the Forum. Sorry that I can't help you. You've resurrected a 4 year old thread. On this forum, it is normal practice to start a new thread when you have a question. However, you might try doing a Google search of Hornet truck campers. You might find one for sale like yours to get an idea what year yours is.
