I'm preparing for my next camping adventure. Still staying close to home. My knucklehead dogs and I are heading out on Tues for 3-4 days. I'm looking around southern WY, as the northern Colorado Poudre Canyon is a bit of a mess right now. I was camped there a couple of weeks ago for 3 hours, then evacuated due to debris flow from a burn scar caused by last years fires. 4 people were killed evacuating that day! So, I'm heading to WY.
Does anyone have a favorite camping area up there? I can do dispersed or in a site with hook-ups. Or possibly you know of a great area within 2 hours or so (100miles?) of Laramie.
Thanks. I appreciate your feedback
btw -I'm loving my 'little big rig'! :) :) :)

Oh word! I finally got my awning out, repaired, and cleaned up! Looking good, and I know how to operate it. YaY!20210729_155036.jpg

How about the Saratoga, WY area? Maybe take a day float trip down the North Platte river, later in the season like now it should be a fairly smooth water float. There are a few campground options in town and no services national forest service campgrounds in the mountains between Saratoga and Laramie.

Off topic. In the picture of your rig I see you have the awning level. If there is any chance of rain, be sure to lower one corner so the rain runs off and doesn't collect on the awning. Water weights a lot.

You might want to check out Thermopolis, too, where there are several RV parks with Hot Springs, in addition to the one large, free bath house in the state park there. We spent a couple of days there a few years back. The pics below were in the Fountain Of Youth RV Park -- it has a huge pool with graduated heat levels.

There is also a free hot spring in Saratoga see Hobo Pool in addition to this there is a resort located nearby (a few hundred feet away) with pay access hot springs.

South Pass is pretty nice and isolated. Lots of history through there. The wagon ruts in the Oregon Trail are still visible. Atlantic City BLM Campground, Lewis Lake Campground and Little Popo Agie Campground. It's a bit further away than what you mentioned. But so is everything.

Laramie, Patty, then WY 130 to Centennial, then up the Snowy Range toward Saratoga. I bet there’s lotsa boondock spots up there. Check with the Forest Service. It might be a “fee” area. Never been myself, but it’s on the list.

Boulder and Pinedale are lovely. Warren Bridege Campground too. Probably not very south.

Have you explored Dinosaur National Monument of Flaming Gorge? Both fantastic.

For a couple days, Guernsey, Fort Laramie is nice. Lots of history. Several places to park, not sure of hookups. But you can dump at several Wyoming rest areas. It's almost my back yard, holler if I can be of any help.

We camped at Ayers Natural Bridge a few years back. It was beautiful, and free for up to 3 nights. The only problem I see is they don't allow pets. We were on the motorcycles at the time, but I've always wanted to go back in the RV, except for the no pets thing.

Wally, we saw the big solar eclipse in 2017 from a spot just a couple of miles cross country from Ayers Natural Bridge, though we never made it over to see the Natural bridge itself (20 or so miles driving distance to get there)

It's kind of a surprise. When you exit the freeway there is absolutely nothing at the exit. The park is 5 miles off the freeway and I was accused of leading the group somewhere to dispose of the bodies until we went around the last turn and began to see trees and water. We liked it so much that we stayed 2 nights instead of the single night we had planned. Douglas has a pretty cool train museum that we visited.

Green River Lakes is a bit North of Pinedale but it's great boondocking....
