I've seen a few posts on YouTube on this subject, but they haven't been very specific. RV owners recommend a surge protector for 30A shore power that also tests the pedestal to see how constant the voltage may be. Can anyone recommend a good protector that I can purchase for this function? Any help you can give me would be appreciated. Thank you

I have a 50 amp Model 34850 by Surge Guard. So far on this trip it has saved me a couple of times from bad power. Low voltage is often as dangerous often more dangerous than power spikes. It can be calmative in damage. The Surge Guard will shut off power if the voltage gets to low. Then it will reconnect if the problem goes away.
I hilly recommend the Southwire surge protectors.

Any questions just ask.

I too vote for the Progressive Industries PTX-30C or HW-30C Double vote for the HW (Hard wired) as you never forget it.

TRC/Southwire "Surge Guard" brand has both portable and hard wired that are nearly as good.

WARNING.. both companies make cheaper products that are NOT as good.

Do either have wireless remote monitoring?
i would like a built in but crawling in the basement to see it isn’t ok and I am not sure about taking things apart to route wires is gonna happen.

I was looking for something that isn't hard wired. These Progressives both seem to be hard wired. (PTX-30C or HW-30C) The TRC/Southwire is more along the lines of what I was looking for. Seems to be in about the same price range. $200 to $300

I have the Progressive Industries EMS PT50X for several years now and have not had any problems with it and would highly recommend it. The 30 amp version would be PT30X.

The Progressive EMS-PT30X is portable. It's an outstanding product.

If you think you may upgrade to a 50A RV sometime in the next 3-4 years, get the PT-50X (50A version). It works fine on a 30A RV and you won't have to buy a new one if you upgrade later.

I hardwired a Progressive Industries unit when we first bought this RV. My only regret was not getting the optional remote display. I don't want or need to look at it very often but when I do it's a pain in the neck getting under the bed to see it.
My understanding is the company was sold sometime after I got mine so I have no idea if support is the same, quality is the same, etc...

There are both surge protectors and also combination products that do a complete line monitoring which is what I have been using for more than 20 years. Many of those who seem to have constant appliance failures would not have the issues if they were to use one of the suggested devices. The first such product that I ever saw in the RV after-market would be the Surge Guard which was made by TRC but is now manufactured by Southwire. Some former employees of SG left the company and formed Progressive EMS company to compete with them. Both companies have a long track record and they do what the manufacturer's say that they do.

Recently several more companies have gotten into the market as the use of them has become more common and the RV supply company Camco now makes the RV Power Protector whose specs indicate that it should be a competitive product. The Hughes Power Watchdog claims to also be in that same market.

I have a lot of experience with the Surge Guard products in both 50A and 30A models for several different RVs over the years and continue to use one. I have also known plenty of users of the Progressive EMS and it has some advantages too. If I were you I'd stick with one of those two but probably buy whichever I got the better price from.

My understanding is the company was sold
Power Products, LLC announced its acquisition of Progressive Industries
JUNE 28, 2017. Based in Apex, NC, Progressive Industries is a recognized leader in the design and manufacture of surge protection equipment, adapters, and connectors for the RV industry.
