Too many of the people posting here English is not their first language. I always ignore all the sloppy English I see online. I try to cut them some slack. English is a very difficult language to master. I am in my 70s and speak no other language and I still have problems with the language. What I hate is when people make fun of other people because they are not as well educated.

I would posit for some here English may not be their first language but for the majority it is. I would also be willing to bet most forum members have a HS education and many have earned college degrees. Some have earned post graduate degrees. Most sloppy writing is due to laziness. I sometimes hit reply and then read what I wrote and think “I didn’t write that” or at least I didn’t mean to write that.

Yes but the majority don't make those mistakes.

My coworkers and I will often poke fun when we find emails, websites, or corporate documents with grammar issues but the true fun begins when one of us makes a mistake while poking fun at others! Then the emails really start flying around! Karma?

While I notice every grammar mistake on that list, I say why should we care, as long as we're communicating?

The difference between Let's eat, Grandma and Let's eat Grandma . If I see a long winded post without capitalization or punctuation I move on without trying to decipher it. Overall I have found the majority on this forum reasonably articulate but some other sites holy moly! They are either lazy or failed grade 8 twice before dropping out of school.

We are talking forum members not the residents of the L.A. metropolitan area.
But there are many areas in the USA much like the L.A. metropolitan area.

And happens in other countries too. I remember the first time Tom & I went to Mexicali, Mexico. On the CA side (Calexico, CA), we went to a Bank of America and nobody could communicate with us because nobody in there spoke English!

After a BofA employee came back from lunch, then there was one person who we could barely communicate with.

So then we go into Mexicali, Mexico.

Since it was a Bordertown, we expected many to speak English, just as is the case in Tijuana. That wasn't the case, not even on the CA side in a Bank of America!

But we got around fine with Tom (from Hong Kong) speaking Cantonese in Mexico! There is a large ChinaTown there with many Chinese people around.
