It's Thanksgiving in Canada this weekend and it typically marks the end of the summer camping/boating/cottage seasons. People with cottages and boats will be winterizing and closing up and those with trailers and RVs will be out for one last weekend if they aren't full timers or snow birds.

We are going out Thursday afternoon and staying until Monday morning. The campground is only a couple hours from home but it's dry camping and it's the longest we've ever camped in one spot. We're usually travellors staying only one or two nights on the road and our weekends have only ever been three nights before now.

A four night stay will tax some of the systems, I don't know if a single 40 gallon tank of fresh water will do but I can always refill it from a spigot using a five gallon jug with a spigot. The batteries won't likely last more than two days because we'll need the furnace at night so I'll have to keep an eye on the voltage and run the generator, probably on Saturday morning, for a couple of hours. I may need to do it again Sunday night. Trying to keep the grey tank from filling up will also be on my mind but I do want to stay clean, I think we can both have a quick "navy" shower each day and make it to Monday. I've got lots of propane, Michelle will make sure we eat well and the booze cupboard will be filled. I've got three large bins of firewood to cut down the amount I need to spend at the campground. Did I miss anything?

Anyone else in Canada going out for the last time?

We were planning on going to view the gorgeous colours of the Cabot Trail this weekend, but unfortunately something has come up, so we will likely have Turkey, and all the sides at our daughter's on Monday.

Happy Thanksgiving to all our Canadian friends and neighbors. Hopefully we’ll be able to see many of you if they open the border.

I would have to had a couple cigars in there up until a few years ago when the doc made me quit. Sounds like alcohol may suffer the same fate. At least I can still sit around and be grumpy!

Dawn makes disinfecting wipes that kills 99.9 of all bacteria and viruses; I can go a month easy without a shower. LOL

My wife wouldn't do that but boys have different plumbing and can handle it. Again LOL.

Bring bottled water and urinate outside. "who let the dogs out?"

For water and cleanliness, my grandparents had a cabin without running water, and we learned to keep clean with a small bucket of soapy water and a small quantity of clean water. Amazing what a bit of soap can do! Hope you have fun.

I bring a large selection of cigars whenever we go camping or traveling. I'll smoke something nice for you KrazeeHorse33.

As a kid I swam every day so the idea that I needed a shower while camping didn't occur until my teens.

We are going out to Drumheller tomorrow Thursday for 4 days 16 for highs 0 for lows cooking a turkey Saturday for 9 people (all double vacinated) and we will sit outside. Cant wait winterize monday before we come home. We have power and water, dump station for monday and 3 84 gallon waste tanks, fireplace, space heater and furnace. Wood for firepit lol

Enjoy the Hoodoos and the Badlands, you likely won't take in the Royal Tyrell, but it is a gem. Have a great weekend.

Our highs are about 14C just like you but our lows are only 7C so quite a bit warmer at night.

That's about 57F and 45F, still way above freezing but the kind of night you invite the dog up onto the bed to sleep by your feet.

I had T-day dinner with long time friends on Sunday they are doing the family thing this weekend. I am glad to not be part of that, my patience with preschoolers is thin.
We have my daughter and 6 of her friends comming out - they are all late 20s but are still kids lol but good ones

fun stuff

What a great weekend. Thursday night to Monday morning and only one night of rain (Sat) the rest were actually sunny.

Everything worked as planned with the exception of the battery charger. It seems the old Magnatek is just too slow to recharge batteries in the short 2 hour window we are allowed to run the genny. The batteries held out anyway and ran the furnace all four nights despite only getting a slight recharge on Sat night. I have plans to replace the old converter/charger with a Xantrex Inverter/Charger that has a 100 Amp bulk charge rate so I won't have any worries about this next year.

Time to clean and winterize it and wait for March.

But, the Canadian Government still remains silent on when or if the "Do not travel outside of Canada" advisory will be lifted. That could impact health insurance for Canadians travelling to anywhere outside Canada.

This is a late post on my part, so I imagine that everyone knows by now that the US land border is open to non-essential travel to Canadians starting November 8th.

The guy next to us is from Calgary. He had a friend, a US citizen, drive his toy hauler across the border. He flew in, picked up his trailer and is enjoying the good life here at Lake Mead NRA.
