We have a 2018 Elite Suites DRV with this type of toliet. Sometimes when it is flushed the water will come into the bowl and drain right back out. If we flush it again it will usually refill and hold the water. Sometimes it takes a couple of flushes to get the water to stay in the bowl. Thanks it advance for your help. Mitch

Sounds like some seal is worn out.

I would replace the toilet. They are not that expensive or difficult to replace. At least if you can replace it with a simple one. Usually a lot cheaper on line.

Ah... Don. Not really.

The Techma is an electric Macerating toilet with a pump. It grinds all waste and pumps it to the black tank. They are used in locations that require this kind of toilet and you can't substitute one for a gravity toilet like you linked to. And, they aren't cheap they cost right around $1000.

Well, learned something new today. I didn't now that Tecma had RV toilets, I only knew about their marine line for boats.

Required where? I never heard of such being required anywhere.
Yeah, I'm wondering about this, as well.

However, if the toilet is working well, except for the seal, I think it would be best trying to replace the part and not the whole unit.

Edit: Never mind about the seal. It seems that the RV toilets from Tecma don't use the conventional seals of other RV toilets.

The owner's manual for the toilet has a troubleshoot section (page 30). Maybe the OP can find some helpful info there as to why the water doesn't stay in the bowl after flushing.

I would only replace the toilet, if possible to use a cheaper one.

I just don't understand the macerating process would be necessary in an RV.

Here's the issue. The toilet is too far from the black tank to accommadate a gravity toilet. That is why they are spec'd in RVs and why they are "required." Well, required if you want for the waste flushed into the toilet to be deposited in the black tank. If you don't care about that then go for it.

I got it. Kind of the same idea as the marine units. You want the discharge to "travel" safely to the holding waste tank.

Again, a new thing for me. Learning everyday, I say.

OIC. When you mentioned "location where required" I was thinking RV park locations.

I just assumed all RV toilets were right above the black tank. Now I understand the issue and why it needs the pump.

I just learned something. Thanks for the info.

Our 2017 Winnebago Adventurer has a gravity toilet in the half-bath directly above the black tank and a Techma in the rear bath a good 18-20 feet from the black tank.

By the way, the Techma is terrific - very home-style kind of a device. Much preferred in our RV.

I didn't realize any RVs had two toilets or 1.5 baths.

But I never looked inside any large RVs as I always preferred small. Even my new 30 footer is longer than I really wanted.

Back to OP question: Our Tecma does the same thing and resolves the same way; usually one reflush, occasionally two. The trouble shooting page in the manual suggests the discharge hose is pulled down below the level of the toilet nozzle and is causing the water to siphon out. Seems to me if that were the cause, it would not be intermittent. Perhaps sometimes the discharge is ‘extra’ thick or heavy that it doesn’t get pumped all the way to the black tank? (And the hose isn’t completely supported end to end and so gets pulled down.)

All I know is the issue is easily resolved with an extra flush or two and only becomes a nuisance when we go to use it and didn’t realize beforehand the bowl was dry.

Our rig also has 2 toilets, but we also have 2 black tanks, one for each toilet so luckily gravity flow works for both.

Bingo. That is what I was thinking as well. When I have our guy do the year end matinance I am going to ask him if he will do any required anual matinance on the toliet. Thanks again.
