Here in the USA we have been told all fossil fuels including natural gas will be eliminated. Leaving only solar and wind power generation with no backup. Even CA wildfires cut solar power up to 30% that can last for weeks. We would accept EV taking over the majority of the market. We just don't like being forced by legislation.

Definitely haven’t seen anything like that here. Interesting. There is definitely a push to burn less petroleum or to burn it more efficiently though.

Nope. The birds thing was a myth started by a specific petro company. It actually came back to haunt them in bad publicity because it was so clearly fabricated. Here’s the real numbers. Also easy to research in many languages in many countries. Kinda funny. The biggest killer of birds is and always has been house cats. Turbines are almost inconsequential.
And the climate change crowd tells us that pretroleum products kills more birds than wind turbines. So its all about when the earth is going to catch fire crowd and EV owners wants to believe.
And yes Natural gas that heats homes in the winters comes from drilling, which the same crowd is attempting to ban too.
By 2050. I won’t be around to witness it and I doubt you will either. Politicians say things on the campaign trail because folks want to hear it. It’s up to us filter out the campaign rhetoric and focus what we know are the things that can actually get done. Unfortunately we have come to a time where it doesn’t matter if a proposed bill will benefit the people, if the right proposed it the left won’t vote for it, if the left proposed it the right will not vote for it. Bipartisanship for the good of the country is dead.
As I have said in past posts I am 100% entirely in favor of hybrids. I don't like total EV because if your battery runs dead they don't make electric gas cans. Plus on a long trip I want to refill in 5 minutes not 30 minutes twice as often. Plus I think electricity rates (or taxes) will go through the roof to pay for "free" charging stations and upgrades to the infrastructure needed to eliminate fossil fuels. Then we pay more for A/C, heat, lighting, and shopping at any business that offers "free" charging. Nothing is "free".
Its free when I am not paying. And there are countless free charge stations in Reno and a few in CA. Free to me, the casino or Cal-Trans pays.
Without discussing politics, I may not be around in 2050 but we are already seeing the effects. A change to total electric is good but only if done in a realistic way and as technology allows. Not good when thrown against the wall to see if it sticks. The facts are the Keystone pipeline was shut down and drilling on federal lands and the gulf were shut down in the same executive order. Now that the price of gas has skyrocketed 80 million acres of the Gulf of Mexico went up for lease to oil and gas drilling companies. It may not be for the good of the country but maybe people who use heating oil won't freeze this winter. Europe is in a pickle because they don't have fossil resources like the US and Canada.
Where you live and drive there may be enough charging stations so the portable charge unit would work. But surprise, surprise, we don't all live where you do, so understand why an EV won't work for us. At this point in time. It realistically might be a decade before all the US is covered with the thousands of charging stations needed. Look how long the internet has been around and rural areas are just now starting to get it.
