Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania are all EZ Pass states. Some of the tolls on 95 can be quite expensive. I got a too violation letter a few weeks back. It was for our son in 2017 when he lived in Delaware. There were more than 200 violations totaling nearly $4000. They offered him a deal that if he paid the tolls the fines would be waived. He only had to pay $204.

BTW, I saw something unusual on the way here. About 150 miles north of here there was a fairly large (at least three feet long) Iguana Lizard about two feet from the pavement looking like it was about to cross over the turnpike. I passed it. I hope it had enough sense to turn around. It must have been somebody's escaped pet. It sure looked like it was going to cross the turnpike. It didn't get far, if it did.

If it gets cold enough, they fall off the trees.
Taste like chicken.

The toll road craze took off in Florida about 25 years ago, to support their ongoing population explosion, now they seem to be everywhere.
Other than the bridges, I think there is one in the south eastern Silicon Valley area.

I still don't see why it's ever necessary. More population means more people paying the road tax by buying more gasoline and such.

That was a little over 7 hours. I75 NB near Tampa. Brand new facility with separate RV parking. No one bothered us. A 5th wheeler near us was there before us and was still there when we left. They even had a slide half way out. I have stayed at a few rest stops between Florida and Wisconsin. No issue with any type of authority ever.

The Florida Turnpike was originally built with the idea that the tolls would pay for it, and then it would become a public highway. But, when the time came, the pols decided that it was just bringing in too much money and they couldn't kill such a Cash Cow Beauty.

That has happened quite often, I believe.

The same thing happened to us back in NH. This one road was about 15/20 miles long and it has two toll houses. This was back in the early 50’s. I remember one toll was 10 cents and the other was 15 cents. They were only going to charge tolls until the road was paid for. Now they are $1.00 each. I often wondered how many times that road was paid for in the last 70 years.

ok.
They tried to keep collecting tolls in Atlanta for hwy 400 ITP. When it was paid for they kept collecting then citizens complained. It is now free to drive and it is paid for and is not a burden on tax payers.

I just got three months of mail in a package from my son. Two of the letters were overdue notices for tolls--one from Colorado that I am pretty sure I already paid and one from Pennsylvania. On my last trip through Florida, I also got a toll invoice by mail. They charge you a fee if you do not pay it within a certain period of time, so best to go online and pay it using a credit card or PayPal before they bill you. Last time I was in Florida, I deposited $20 to cover future tolls, so I suppose I should check that account.

A few years ago, California tried to charge me $50 because I did not pay a $2 fee at an unmanned exit that gave me no way to pay it then and no instructions about going online to pay. I complained that they were ripping off tourists who had no idea how to pay tolls electronically, and they eliminated the fine for me. I now do my best to avoid toll roads in Southern California.

Right now, I have my GPS set to avoid toll roads because it just makes it easier if I can do that. In Florida, the toll road parallels I-75 anyway.

What is the URL? Or can you or somebody provide a link to it?

I normally pay all my bills on line before I receive them--except for my auto-payments.

Edit: Disregard. I just now tried to pay it here.

It says I may not be able to pay it for ten days. It's only been two days.

I didn't even know they had toll roads in Southern CA. How long have they been there?

I do my best to avoid southern CA.

I even avoid the mid CA SF West Bay where I am from, as much as possible.

The last time I was in southern CA ( many years ago in a car) it took a full day just to get out of the traffic.

I hit a toll road in NY state yesterday. It said something like automatic pay. There were no booths and no coin toss devices. I have been cited in the past for "running a toll booth without paying so I was looking for information on paying. It had a number to call. It was something like **86. I called and they said they already photographed my plate and would send a text on how to pay. I have yet to look for or read the text so I am glad I saw this thread to remind me.

PS: they are mailing me a bill. what a PitA. I never had an E-ZPass. I'm not even sure how they work but might be time to get one OR it might be time to avoid toll roads

I don't know how long they have been there, but there are several in Orange County. The big problem is that many of the exits do not have toll booths, so you are supposed to know to have an electronic FasTrak account or pay online. Also, nothing to put money or a credit card into. You are supposed to know how to pay because at the empty "toll booth" where I exited, there was nothing to tell you to go online to a specific site within a certain number of days or you would get a fine.
And how are most tourists supposed to pay a toll or toll fine when they are on vacation and do not get mail until they get home???

Of course, visitors don't have all this information, so most get fined, as I did, for evading a toll payment. Welcome to The Toll Roads | The Toll Roads

Orange County is NOT one of my favorite places, but I have to go there once in a while for business reasons. I think it is very unfair for the toll road people to expect you to read a lot of fine print, even when they do have signs posted, when you have a lineup of cars behind you, and it is heavy traffic. I suspect a lot of people just pay the fine instead of writing angry letters as I did. It is really a "Gotchya!" for unsuspecting tourists!

Florida's Toll By Plate URL is TOLL-BY-PLATE

Frankly, all of this is why when I am in Florida or Southern California, I set my GPS to "Avoid Toll Roads."

I used to have several FasTraks. In fact, I still have them somewhere, but none of them have been used for five years. They were handy for me because I lived in the west bay area, just south of San Francisco, and to go many places it requires a bridge. I had a FastTrak for almost every vehicle, but I hit the limit. They only allow one address to have so many. I cannot remember how many that was, but we had more vehicles than that number they allowed.

BTW, they said the Bay Bridge would be free after it was paid for. But after it was completely paid off, they decided to raise to toll instead. CA needs all the cash it can get, but I had no complaints as my job was paid for by tax revenue. I was an Emergency Radio Systems Technician for the City & County of San Francisco for 38 years. And retired very well too! That money had to come from somewhere :) .

I thought those "Service Plazas" on the turnpike were handy. Right in the middle of the south and north bound. I don't think I have seen those in any other states. Do other state have them?

I've seen a few similar ones, but it's been a while. Those were an original idea by the designers of the Florida Turnpike back in the late '50s
I think that the early turnpike built in Kansas had one such service area near Topeka, but it has long since been decommissioned.

Such a great idea to not have to leave the freeway by more than a few feet to get gas /diesel and other stuff. And to take a break!

IMO, there are many other places that should be done in other states.
