Going into Canada this summer?

We had planned on entering Canada this summer but reading the requirements I don't think we will.

Anyone planning on a trip to the North?

We have been looking at that for 2 years. Won't put up with the testing, etc. Vaccinations?, OK with us but not all the other testing/waiting/etc. stuff. We are hopeful, for sure. Wanting to get to Alaska, our route takes us into Canada and back, from the us 4 times for the round trip.

You might instead book round trip on the ferry out of Seattle on the inside passage.

Thanks for your suggestion Donn.

I researched the ferry back in the spring of last year and decided I would enjoy driving there through Canada to see the sights.
Canada would be a highlight of the trip, if I decide to try and go.

Some friends also mentioned that trip also but I'll know more later whether or not they're still interested.
I may end up going it alone....

We are going to Canada and Alaska this summer Sure, there are some extra steps, but the trade off is a few months of gorgeous country. I can deal with that.

just watched a video of a couple coming back across the border, they caught a ton of crap over an open bag of rice !. its ok for the bad folks to come across our southern borders, but yet its against the law for a bag of rice to come back into usa ?. wow..just wow !.

Ferry = $$$$$ but it is very interesting. Would miss some great Canadian parks and other destinations; a big part of the trip. Best, in my way of thinking, would be to ferry one way and drive the other.
Pam and Kevin, I really hope to be making the trip. Good luck to you. The border crossing criteria is continually changing these days.
Alan6051964, there are lots of documents to keep one informed about what can, or cannot be, transported; need to read up on that if the border crossing is going to go smoothly.

The other adventure we have been planning takes us from our northern NY home into Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Is., Newfoundland, northern Maine. That would only involve one crossing for us, so maybe.

You need to consider, if you were to take the ferry out of Seattle you would not need passports, fuel bill would be essentially zero, so the ferry cost is reduced substantially. And you get to see the wonderful inland passage.
Now, if your driving off the mid west or east coast you would likely cross the border In Montana. So scenery through Alberta to Grande Prairie is pretty sparce. Remember this is prairie land. Once you cross into BC it gets better. But then your looking at 6-7 US dollar gasoline.

For years that boat has been nicknamed the "Felony Ferry". Big users are people with a Felony or a DUI conviction who want to drive to Alaska but are blocked from entering Canada.

Nope. Gas is about 1.39 per litre where we are. But even taking more of a provincial average of 1.55 per litre it’s about 4.69 USD for a US gallon.
