I had a 2007.5 Ram 3500 Quad cab dually with 6.7 Cummins and 68RFE Automatic transmission. 350 HP/680 lb Torque. Pulled everything. Never thought I'd ever give it up. Till I drove my 2019 Ram 3500 Quad cab dually with 6.7 Cummins High Output (400 hp/1000 LB Torque) and Aisin transmission with 4:10 rear end. My trailer is DRV 38RSB3 wt 18000 lbs. The Ram is rated 35000 lb towing. It has the automatic exhaust brake and dash connected EOH disc brakes on trailer (Electric over Hydraulic) It tows this trailer easily. Up the Grapevine / Tejon pass in California and up Hwy 93 from Cranbrook to Banff. All the new diesel 1 ton trucks (Ford, Chevy/GMC, Ram) are rated to tow 35000. Someone always asks me why I always buy the dually. Simple: I always have two extra spare tires where-ever I go. LOL
LOL you described my truck to a "T".
My build date was January 2007. Quad cab 4x2 dually 4.10 rear end. Set the cruise and forget it. Up down hills no problem.

FWIW, my 2018 Ram Cummins 2500
HD has a rear GAWR of 6500 lb. Front is 6000 lb. On the sticker.

OP needs a 3500 for a 41 footer that will likely weigh 14,000 plus, fully loaded. JMHO.
My 35’ 5th wheel has a GVWR of 13995 (14,000). The pin weight comes close to my payload of my Ram 3500. A 41’ is gonna have a GVWR near 16,000.

The pin weight on our 41 footer comes in at around 3300 pounds. That will usually be way too much for any 3/4 ton, especially when you add hitch weight, passenger weight, tools, etc., etc............

A camper a couple of sites down (towing a TT for the weekend) has a gas Ram 2500 with a payload of 3000 (I looked at his sticker) and a 300lb B&W companion puck hitch.
He plans to tow a 41’ Montana with an 18k GVWR. Yikes!

Yeah. You really have to watch the trim level on the RAM trucks. Some of those 2500's don't have much tow capacity at all. The PowerWagon is a glorified half ton off-road truck. It's max payload is 10k lbs and not even a 2k payload.

The following site does pretty good at laying out the options for tow capabilities. I've been spending too much time on it as I'm hoping to put a deposit on a custom order sometime this fall.

For me and my usage, I'm looking at the Crew Cab Laramie with the 8' bed, 4x2, and the 6.4 Hemi. Max tow of just over 17k and max payload just over 3k.

Based on the numbers being provided in this thread, you'd be better looking at the 3500's.

Since your getting a 6.4 and a long bed, get the 50 gal gas tank too. I just moved up from a 3/4 ton with a 26 gal tank to a 1 ton with a long bed and 50 gal tank. Less fuel stops.

Absolutely! I have that on my spec sheet I plan on carrying in when I go to place the order.

BTW, if your current truck is a 6 speed, your going to love the 8 speed. World of difference towing. My 2017 Ram 3/4 ton with a 6 speed would go between 3rd and 4th going up steep hills. My 8 speed goes 4th for a short time, then 5th to 6th, then 7th when I’m starting to crest the hill. Ram did it right with this transmission.

Actually at 5-6MPG towing 41 foot fiver your going to want the max gas tank just to make it between gas stations.
Really, if your ordering and plan towing a monster fifth wheel why not go for the Cummins?

I'm not the original poster. My trailer isn't anywhere near a monster 5er.
