You must be a youngster! I had a really good job and was making $1/hour riding the hay wagon behind the baler which was one of the best paying job for a HS farmboy at that time! Notice that the new car is a 55 Chevy.

In 1969 as a just HS graduated 18 yo I was making $.65 an hour and paying about $.17-$.20 gallon for gas.

I"m older than that (30 or eve 25¢ per gallon
I recall an AD for a car where they ask "Which side of the pump do you pull up on) and they had the company that made the original Batmobile make them a special car.. Well it was two Half Cars.. As it pulled up to the pump island it split in two the driver's side going one side of the pump and the passanger side (With a hidden driver) going on the other side.
Then they talked about he filler cap behind the plate.
More recently there was an insurance company talking about their "Full cost of replacement" policies.. "Perhaps they (Other companies) want you driving 3/4 of a car"....
They missed a sight gag by not having the same company (They still make specality cars for Hollyweird) make them a 3/4 car.
