I am now stuck at home with COVID. I would rather catch it now than in the middle of an RV trip. I was going to get my shot for the new variant before leaving. I guess now I don't need to bother with that.

This is the time of year I like most for RV trips. To warmer places, of course.

It now seems to me with COVID there are two types of people.

1. Those who have already caught it.
2. Those who will catch it.

A lot of heavy snow coming over Donnor Summit anyway, and for several more days. It would be a bad time for me to go back to Auburn, CA now anyway, and that is where both of my RVs are kept. No need to winterize them there, so they are always ready to go.

Snow coming here in Reno too by around 1500 hrs.

AAWWWW poor thing.. BTDT,,Get your but to a doctor for a 5 day prescription for PAXLOVID that is taken orally and encapsulates the virus and minimizes it's effects for 5 days... I went thru this 3 months ago and only had sniffles and my voice went down one octave,, no other symptoms until I was free of it.. You must start it within 5 days of contacting the virus.>>>D

Stay on top of it Don. Yes everyone is going to get it. And I think it's a DNA thing how it affects you. I'm sure I mentioned I lost a BIL that was a healthy, fit NCAA football referee. I'm not nearly as fit, have some heart issues and I'm still here. Wes isn't dammit.

I most likely won't do anything at all. I will just let nature take its course, even if it kills me. And I won't leave the house for a couple of weeks.

But so far, it has not been any worse than a common cold.

This bug reminds me of an allergy. Some people have no symptoms and other people it kills.

Eat one peanut, it can kill some people, but most have no ill effects at all.

See here.

"Girl with severe nut allergy died after kissing boyfriend who had eaten peanut butter sandwich".

I hope you feel better soon, I just heard this morning that my former nextdoor neighbor and his daughter that lives nextdoor to him have COVID, he is 99 and has been living on his own since his wife died 2 years ago.

That’s just what I had and after 3 days I was feeling better.

Just a couple of thoughts. Once you recover, still get the vaccine because it provides protection against getting it again. The more times you become sick from the virus, the greater chance of getting "long covid." You definitely don't want that as it can extremely debilitating. Wishing you a quick recover.

Just took a Covid saliva test to one of Kaisers labs. Pretty sure it's just a head cold but just in case. Whatever it is, hit me like a ton of bricks Saturday. Since Sunday, it's been manageable so I'm thinking probably not Covid. AFAIK, I've never had Covid. Had the two initial shots and first booster last March.

Let us know how it develops.

I was curious about that. Thanks for that info. Yeah, after I get over this, I will get the shot I was going to get anyway.

I only took the home test for Covid, but I know several others who also have COVID right now who I have been hanging around with. We all got the symptoms within a day of each other. We all tested positive. Most of us have taken the home test before (but not me) this positive result and it was always negative until this time. We all have mainly cold like symptoms. And not all that bad, so far.

And let us know that your results were. I would expect COVID, the way it's been going around lately. The good news is it is usually not that serious these days with the weaker variants, but it's much more contagious than in the past. Spreads like crazy.

I now know more people that have caught it than I do who have not caught it.

I think we should all expect to catch it.

Get the prescription for a course of Paxlovid as previously mentioned. There is growing evidence that it may reduce your chances of Long COVID as well has reducing the time COVID lasts. When I had my go-round with COVID, the symptoms were nothing more than a very mild cold, and Paxlovid had me testing negative in three days. I did complete the full five day course though.

My daughter-in-law has long term COVID. Here in the Denver area she had to wear oxygen all of the time, and even then just walking up the stairs raised her heart rate alarmingly. My son has a little long term effect, since he breathes hard after walking up a flight of stairs, but not nearly as bad as his wife. And he was really fit, often riding his bike many miles at a time, even to work, before COVID. After they moved to Texas, DIL can go without supplemental oxygen in the daytime, though she still needs it at night. And, she's still very limited in her ability to do much.

So keep up those vacs.

I don’t buy into catching Covid being inevitable. What I see is lots of risky behavior during an ongoing pandemic.

We never stopped wearing masks at work or in public, and still follow common sense precautions. Since we both work in healthcare, we’ve probably been exposed multiple times.

There are still people dying every day from this easily preventable disease.

In the real world, I am not so sure it is that easy to prevent. Almost everybody I know has had it, I was one of the last to catch it.

Today, 1, Dec 2022, there were 611 COVID deaths in the USA. The highest number in the last 8 days. Two deaths on Nov 26, zero COVID deaths on Nov 27. It's not nearly as serious to catch as it used to be, but it sure does spread a lot faster.

Zero deaths here in Nevada for the last week from COVID.

Compare to:

36,000 people die of the flu each year, which is ~99 per day as an average. On many days more die from the flu than COVID.

"2,380 deaths from cardiovascular disease each day, based on 2018 data."

"405 deaths from stroke each day,"

Around four times as many die from heart disease than COVID every day.

Everyone you know is vaccinated and boosted, wears a mask in public, practices social distancing and good hand hygiene, but got Covid anyway? Wow, that's amazing.

My 38 year old son never got vaccinated and he hasn’t been ill including with Covid-19. His Mom hasn't got it either. They don't wear masks, but we live quite rural even through the lockdown. I am with both of them right now. They both act and look healthy, but then I'm no doctor. Without a Covid-19 test right now how would one know?

That's exactly the point. You take reasonable, well-known precautions because you can't tell if someone is sick just by looking at them.
