Accordion anyone?

I had an accordion when I was a kid. My parents took me and my brother to the music store and told us to pick an instrument. He chose the electric guitar and me the accordion. The one with the keys. I learned to read music but when I got a bit older it didn’t seem too cool an instrument. It was the 60’s and Rock n Roll was the thing.
Fortunately it has gotten really cool in the last half century. I think the fact that Lawrence Welk featured the accordion frequently turned off a lot of kids. That heavens that Weird Al had a last name of a famous 50s accordion player. Because of this he was given lessons and an accordion at a young age.
I always thought an accordion would be a neat instrument to play, but I didn't go down that
Same here, my neighbor had one in the sixties but I was too interested in drums and guitar.
For what it's worth, I stumbled into this video on YouTube. I think this one absolutely reaches a new level! And these girls are kind of cute too! I can say that now without being criticized for being "male"... I'm now 67 years old and get away with it! I just blame it on senility! (ha! ha!)

What a great find. They are not playing their instruments though. No mikes. They have a band that is doing the playing. Almost like Karaoke accordion. But they are still very impressive. I would have a hard enough time just roller skating much less singing and playing an accordion at the same time.
"Weird Al" Yankovic is a 2022 movie based on the life of this man. I saw the movie too and then did some internet researching to find out how much of it was actually true.

That photo above is from the move.
I am excited about watching Harry Potter play the accordion. And Rainn Wilson is Doctor Demento * Barry Hansen) who is an old friend of mine from my record collecting days. I have been to several of his concerts and can't find the photos. I was in the second row on the isle for one show and he came down into the audience and was singing 'One More Minute' and stopped right at my feet to sing a few lines to the pretty girl sitting next to me. And stupid me did not stand up and take a selfie of us.

Tom,
You (or someone else) might know the answer to this. In the late 60's or possibly in '70 I went to see a performer who I'd class as a "lounge singer", similar to Frank Sinatra or Tony Bennett. Can't remember his name now, but I do remember that at some point previous to this concert he was involved in an accident that resulted in him having a plate installed in his head. During the show he referenced the plate in a joke about the heat from the stage lights.
Wasn't my kind of music at the time, but I did enjoy the show. First one I ever saw on a stage "in the round".

Sorry, no clue.

Ha, Ha, Ha! I was forced to watch Lawrence Welk also as a kid. Actually, in that time era, it was the one thing on, on the only television station we could get.

I did enjoy some of his music. Then Mom got into Mitch Miller! My parents square danced. I got exposed to some styles of music that (especially younger) folks gag at today, for sure!

Believe it or not, I actually like Lawrence Welk and Mitch Miller now. I suppose my parents really did screw me up!

I liked Lawrence Welk more when I was a child.
And Mitch Miller was also liked.. Did he not invent the bounching sing-along ball
I still recall his rewrite of Stars and Stripes (Be kind to your web footed friends replacing Hurray for the flag of the Free) (yes I know Sosa's Lyrics to that piece).

I got exposed to FOLK and in fact the very first LP I ever bought... String Along by the Kingston Trio.

And I also took up square dance.. In fact.. How I met she who became my wife for 34.5 years and the mother of my child (Alas she is no more). (10 years come April and I still miss her).

Music, however, is still a major part of my life.... Many forms.. most everything but Rap.
Ask a Rapper what he does "I do rap"
Ask a Singer what he does "I sing songs"
Singing is the vocal portion of MUSIC.

(Rap is however poetery. As are songs.. poetery is "Done")

Not much of the movie was true. But it was one of the funniest movies of 2022 IMHO. I especially like the part where he tells the girls in the front row that he's going to whup it out, and IT turns out to be an accordion. That's when the cops come and drag him off the stage.

They also make "Play a banjo go to jail stickers". It is a joke. I knew a band named Mandolin Squeeze. As you'd expect it to be a mandolin...and an accordion. They were quite entertaining.
